To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to express an interest in joining the team at Goodyear. I have been a school administrator and teacher in
Springfield, Missouri for the past several years, but my family and I will be relocating to Topeka the first of July. I am
excited about the prospect of joining a new community and am submitting my resume for consideration.
As you’ll see on the enclosed resume, the depth of my experience in education offers you the opportunity to hire a
skilled communicator with an incredible degree of flexibility. I have and outgoing and positive personality, which
lends itself well to working with clients and fellow colleagues.
Having worked in a small school over the past several years, I have been asked to wear many hats. Apart from
teaching, I directed the summer program, managed operations and building needs as we moved from one school to
another, led numerous school tours, and answered phones for many hours. I solved problems quickly, took careful
notes and messages, and managed a relatively hectic school environment without feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
As the Upper School Director, I have been responsible for staff recruitment, hiring, evaluations, conducting weekly
staff meetings, training, orientation, scheduling, and all responsibilities involving managing the middle and high
school personnel. Strong interpersonal communication skills, organization, and time management have been key my
success in this arena.
Prior to teaching at The Summit, I taught for Springfield Public Schools in an urban environment with many English
Language Learning students. There, I was awarded a national Teacher of the Year award, and was recognized by the
Missouri House of Representatives as an outstanding educator. In all of my professional aspirations, I strive for
excellence.
Before that experience, I was an administrative and personal assistant for the Executive Vice President of Drury
University. There, I took many responsibilities including checking and directing her emails, phone messages,
managing schedules, typing dictated letters, keeping appointments and sending reminders, in addition to cleaning and
general maintenance of the office area.
Apart from classroom experiences, I have demonstrated skill as a professional writer and public speaker, publishing
articles in both educational and parenting journals, and speaking to various groups on educational topics, including
hosting teacher training seminars on classroom technique, integrated curriculum, and critical thinking skills.
My family and I will be in the Topeka area several times during the spring and early summer. Please contact me if I
can visit for an interview or facility tour in the coming months. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Lara Garrett
