Markel Insurance Company Blair, Nebraska 2007 – 12/6/2010
Executive Underwriter
I was hired in the Virginia office to design, underwrite and implement their Garage and
Dealers Program. In April of 2008, Markel purchased an agency specializing in Garage
risks for retail agencies. I was relocated to Nebraska to complete the implementation
process for the wholesale end of the program.
• Production underwriting of a profitable book of multi-line accounts – primarily
garage related businesses.
• Designed and implemented the Garage Service Risks and Dealer programs on
non-admitted & admitted paper for implementation nationwide through the use of
General Agents.
• Authored all training materials and guidelines for use with the service risks &
dealers programs.
• Assisted in the set up of the online rating system and trained both Company and
Agency personnel in its use.
• Within 3 years brought the book of business from start up to $5,000,000. with a
24% loss ratio.

• Production underwriter of a large book of transportation related business.
• Designed and implemented the Market Segment Program for Auto Service Risks
on both admitted and non-admitted paper for implementation on a nation wide
basis.

declarations pages and supplemental declarations pages for the Market Segment
Auto Service Risks program.

paper) and request the appropriate rate changes to be filed for admitted paper.

• Production underwriter of a large book of transportation related business.
• Researched the statutes and established the underwriting guidelines necessary
to enter the insurance market in the State of New York.
• Worked with a team of underwriters to develop the first package policy used by
Scottsdale Insurance Company in the Transportation Department

medical transport risks as well as other public transportation programs.
