Summary

Work Experience

Precision Hydraulic Cylinders, Beulaville, NC

Plant Manager Nov 2007-Feb 2011

Responsible for plant operations of the Beulaville facility. PHC is a

global supplier of hydraulic cylinders to world class forklift OEMs.

Studied Toyota Production System extensively with Toyota. Led team in

transforming factory, driving down warranty, PPM and increasing throughput.

Implemented 5S, visualization, standard work and many other elements of the

Toyota Production System. Reduced internal NCM's by 75%. Reduced warranty

to less than .25% of sales. Reduced PPM by more than 50%.

Manufacturing Engineering Manager Dec 2006-Nov 2007

Created simple low cost tooling, reducing setup times and solving

difficult, chronic quality problems. Implemented poka yoke fixturing. Spent

significant time in India starting up a new World Class Facility from the

ground up. The project included the purchase/installation of all capital

equipment, training and setup/startup of the factory operations. Promoted

to plant manager in less than a year.

Interroll, Wilmington, NC

Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1999-2006

Interroll is a global manufacturer of conveyor components and traded on the

Swiss stock exchange. During my time at Interoll, I implemented lean

manufacturing and single piece flow across multiple product lines. Designed

and built, in-house, simple low cost semi-automatic machinery to reduce

cost. I was also responsible for the tool room and maintenance operations.

During my tenure at Interroll, I traveled extensively to Germany and

Denmark studying advanced production techniques within the Interroll

family.

Cascade Corporation, Beulaville, NC

Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1997-1999

Cascade is a global manufacturer of forklift attachments and is traded on

the NYSE. During my time at Cascade, I was project manager of multi-million

dollar factory renovation. During the renovation, there was a major

building addition as well as the installation of a single piece flow

cylinder production line. As project manager, I coordinated with multiple

Cascade facilities to facilitate the start-up. I was responsible for

purchasing and installing all the equipment including a large pre-wash and

powder coat system. I was also responsible for maintenance.

North Carolina Hydraulics, Beulaville, NC

Design/Manufacturing Engineer 1986-1997

NC hydraulics was a family owned business that produced hydraulic cylinders

as well extensive contracting with the Department of Defense producing

warhead and various other munitions. I began as draftsmen and grew into the

position of design and manufacturing engineer. While at NC Hydraulics, I

studied cylinder design and production techniques in Shiga, Japan as a

guest of TCM Corporation. It was that visit and the relationships I

created during the visit, which solidified a multi-million dollar cylinder

contract.

-Completed Toyota Supplier Development Program. Received most improved

supplier award and gave speech about NCM/warranty reduction techniques at

Toyota Supplier Conference.

-Studied lean and advanced manufacturing techniques during extensive global

travel.

-In-depth understanding of Theory of Constraint, Throughput Accounting and

Demand Flow Technology.

-Extensive tool room and maintenance management experience.

-Extensive mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience. Broad

knowledge of AC and DC voltage, PLCs and factory electrical systems

-Proficient in Microsoft Office products, MS query and report writing

-Full understanding of ISO9001 and 14001

-International corporate patent applied for, for a new roller design that

slashed production cost by 50% (Interoll)

-Highly adaptable. Comfortable in a tool room or boardroom.

-Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills

-I have personally designed and built, a three stage wash and paint system,

automated double-ended welding lathe, a multi-station automatic bearing

assembly machine and a drilling machine.

-Extremely broad range of technical knowledge. I can run an engine lathe,

milling machine and weld. I have practical hands on experience.

-Extensive MIG welding knowledge. Many years experience with pressure

vessel welding, weld sectioning and analysis.
