As a Material Handler in the Weapons Warehouse, my duties consist of verifying
DD250’s, DD1149’s and DD1348’s. I am a self-starter who works independently
utilizing ISO certified work instructions to accomplish a wide range of warehousing
activities, to include, but not limited to receiving, storing, selecting and shipping general
and specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. I transport gear from the holding
area to the receipts area using various forklifts. Safely load and unload materials from
trucks, utilizing MHE material handling equipment such as forklifts up to 6,000 lbs
capacity. Prepare shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or
automated inventory systems. Process and independently complete shipping and
receiving documents to insure correctness of quantities, proper identification of materials
received, and labeling Load and unload shipments from trucks, rail cars, and other
material conveyances using forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, side loaders,
stacker cranes, and automated guided vehicles in mechanized warehouses. Stack, move,
and arrange items on pallets and take in consideration the height, weight, and special
handling requirements. Use pallet measuring gauges and automated devices to insure that
proper height, weight, and other load and storage requirements are met and ensure that
damage in storage or in transit is prevented. I also safely operate a 6000 lb. forklift. In
addition to operating a forklift I also complete the daily vehicle safety checklist for safety
purposes prior to use. Additionally, I have been accident and spill free while operating
MHE within the warehouse and routinely practice good safety habits and perform good
housekeeping within my area of responsibility. I am skilled in using hammers,
screwdrivers, wrenches, band cutters, banding tools, tack hammers, box cutters, pry bars,
sledge hammers, stencil machines, and other various hand tools to assemble and
disassemble containers such as tri-wall reinforced fiberboard boxes and sheathed crates. I
report tampered or broken seals on containers or damaged or deteriorating incoming
shipments to supervisor. I use computers, bar code wands and scanners to input
nomenclature and description of changes. Enter and retrieve data via a computer into or
from an automated warehouse record system. I process material received without
documentation by obtaining and inputting required information into automated system. I
prepare accurate, complete, and up-to-date records of actions taken to assure
documentation is properly signed and coordinated in a timely manner. Maintain integrity
and accuracy of data base information through accurate input and efficient operation of
automated equipment I have the ability to independently complete documents indicating
stock description, quantity, unit of issue, and labeling requirements for incoming and
outgoing stock. I use my knowledge of item identification, codes, warehouse procedures,
and storage areas.
Additionally, quickly educated myself on the proper handling, security measures, and
care in storage of over 40,000 pieces of Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI) located in
the Communications Security vault within Fleet Support Division. My duties there
consist of receiving the CCI material by reconciling the contents of the shipment against
the SF-153 and noting all damages, shortages and separating the material by accountable
legend code. I also place all incoming CCI items on the receipts tracker so they can be
inspected and eventually placed on the Item Locator File (ILF). After inspection, I also
place all receipts on location and ensure all supporting documentation is filed and
forwarded to the item managers for induction into the Supply system. We process
approximately 1200 receipts per year. I also pull all outgoing Material Release Orders
verifying the quantity, serial numbers on all shipments. Additionally, I update the
packing slips on location along with the pallet boards to reflect the current quantity. This
improves the care in storage of items maintained as well as inventory accuracy.
Furthermore, I assist the primary custodians with the inventory of items by quantity and
serial number. I also conduct location consolidations and re-warehousing of material to
maximize warehouse space. I assist the primary custodians with the destruction of all
COMSEC material in accordance with EKMS 1B and EKMS 5A.
