Senior Dye Engineer Hanesbrands, Inc. 1999-
2009
This textile facility produced up to 1.8 million pounds of dyed and
bleached fabric per week of 100%
Cotton, polycotton blends, fleece and jersey. Peak employment was 1300
people, but in the beginning
Of 2009 the facility closed. Processes include circular knitting,
bleaching, dyeing and finishing. Dyeing
Equipment includes Theis, Scholl and Fong machines. Dyes include disperse,
reactive, vats, sulfur, directs,
Neutral reactive and opticals. Customers included Wal-Mart, Champion,
Hanes, and
Target. I reported to the Technical Director and worked closely with the
Supervisors in Dyeing. I was responsible for process improvement,
troubleshooting 55 production machines, color control of over 10,000 colors
and all critical shades for customers giving final approval in dyeing. I
worked with quality control and submitted formulas to Wal-Mart's elite
Central Testing Lab. I had a total responsibility for
Automated controls of machines, dye/chemical formulation, inventory, and
efficiency. I designed and
Established computer control procedures, established drug room/mix specs.
I was the troubleshooter of the
Automated chemical specs and procedures. I controlled formularies,
computerized colorimeter targets and
provided operator specs. I was responsible for formulation, formulation
changes in dyeing, as well as
dye mixing and chemical mixing procedures. I wrote the procedures used in
the dye house including drug
room, dye mixing and machine operations. I improved Wal-Mart's Central
Testing Lab approval rating
from 65% to 97% through improved procedures, improved dye selections, color
control targets for dyeing
and shade reproduction in the dye house. I improved reworks from 6% to 2%-
2.5% through follow-up
analysis and corrective action on procedures, operator training, dye
selections and formulations. The production increased from 1.1 million to
1.8 million pounds.
Plant Manager Oneita Industries Inc. 1997-
1999
This was a vertical knit apparel company with knitting, dyeing, finishing,
cutting and sewing operations. The knitting, dyeing and finishing plant
produced knit cotton and cotton blend fabrics with a peak production volume
of 790,000 pounds per week I reported to the Director of Manufacturing and
was responsible for total textile facility employing approximately 400
employees. Personnel and areas reporting to me included the Lab, Dye
Manager, Knitting Manager and the Finishing Manager. I reduced total
dyeing costs from $.95 per pound to .69 cents. I reduced total bleaching
chemical costs from $.06 cents per pound to .029 cents. I reduced total
finishing chemical costs from $.04 cents per pound to $.023 cents. I
started up the knitting operation growing production from 0 to 180,000
pounds per week at peak. Oneita Industries closed in 1999.
Dye/Bleach/Technical Manager Oneita Industries, Inc.
1993-1997
I reported to the Manufacturing Manager with dotted line to the Plant
Manager. Personnel and areas
reporting to me included the Lab Manager and 4 Technicians. I was
responsible for laboratory, dye formulations, chemical procedures, machine
computer systems, cost improvement, OSHA reporting requirements, MSDS and
safety as well as customer shipments. I reduced bleach reworks from 10% to
as low as 0%. I reduced dyeing reworks from 20% to 1%.
Dyeing and Bleaching Manager Oneita Industries, Inc.
1992-1993
I reported to the Plant Manager and supervised 60 employees and 4
Supervisors. I was responsible for all phases of dyeing and bleaching
operations producing 650,000 pounds of cotton knit fabrics weekly.
Technical Director Bassett Walker Incorporated 1989-1992
This was a vertical knit apparel company. The production volume in this
plant at peak was 1.4 million
pounds per week of fleece fabrics. I reported to the Plant Manager and
supervised the lab including the
Lab Manager and 4 Technicians as well as 2 Process Engineers. I was
responsible for the lab, dye
formulations, chemical procedures, machine computer systems, cost
improvement, OSHA reporting
requirements and customer shipments. I saved $2.9 million dollars in 1
year by making changes in
dye and chemical formulations.
Production Superintendent Cross Creek Apparel 1988-1989
This was a knitting, dyeing and finishing operation. The production volume
was 300,000 pounds per week.
I continued with the duties as Lab Manager while assuming the duties of the
Production Superintendent. I
was responsible for knitting, package dyeing, piece dyeing, laboratory
testing and product development.
my duties also included controlling cost, quality and efficiency.
Technical Director/Lab Manager Cross Creek Apparel 1987-
1988
I reported to the Plant Manager. I was responsible for all dye
formulations, costing department
specifications, audits, SQC, and process improvement. Additional duties
included fabric development,
color control, lab formulation, and process improvement.
Process Control Specialist/Lab Mgr. Milliken & Company
1984-1987
This was a dyeing and finishing operation processing woven and knit apparel
fabrics of polyester and
Blends, as well as flock, cotton nylon, and worsted wool. I reported to
the Technical Superintendent. I was
responsible for all dye formulations, costing, department specifications,
audits, SQC and process
improvement. I was also responsible for all shipments to critical
customers and coordination of
colorimeter specs for Levi Strauss, Haggar Manufacturing, Farah, Marks and
Spencer, Sears Classics, and
Sears/Ivy League.

1980-1984
I reported to the Technical Director. I was responsible for all dye
formulations, costing, department
specifications, audits, SQC and process improvement.
Process Engineer/Dyeing
1976-1980
I reported to the Technical Superintendent with dotted line reporting to
the Plant Manager. I was
responsible for machine specs and R/D fabric evaluations. Other areas of
responsibility included machine
evaluation, chemical procedures and efficiencies, cost control and quality
audits, rework recovery, dye
formulations and quality test procedures.

I was responsible for 20 employees including machine operators and
technical services. Quality control
functions included shade matching, computer controls, technical reporting
