EXPERIENCE:
Engineering/Chemical/Technical
Specified mechanical and chemical improvements for the recycle plant,
boosting production from 35 to over 550 tons per day
. Identified conditions optimal for removing sticky material, glass,
plastics and ink. Led extensive lab work to successfully find product
solutions.
. Strong relationships with key equipment vendors in the US, Finland,
Germany and Japan. Ran pilot plant trials with specific chemical and
mechanical designed experiments in partnership with vendors.
. Team member to create additional peroxide bleach plant. Responsible
for the chemical formulation.
. Team member on significant redesign, making plant more able to remove
contaminants such as glass, as well as enhancing energy efficiency
. Expert in sustainability gains. Gas, electricity and water use each
were reduced by 13% over last 10 years. Participated in Dept of Energy
sponsored mill energy team.
. Zero Waste project: Awarded grant from the American Chemical Council,
Plastics Division to study the rejects from the recycle plant. This
novel approach would recover 5 tons/day of plastic As a result, the
mill was offered a 10-year agreement to fund equipment and take the
separated large plastics.
Computers/Statistics
On-going responsibility for data mining of the mill quality information.
Produced internal and customer quality reports and statistical quality-
control review of processes as the mill changed from one product to over a
hundred. Participated in specification and implementation of various key IT
systems:
. Extensive experience with Wonderware, Foxboro, Honeywell/Measurex
process control computers
. MAJIQ mill order entry/production planning, Cognos/Impromptu, SQL, and

minutes from various databases or process controls.
o Links to the mill MSDS system, plus associated procedures
o Links to department pages for log sheets, schedules, procedures,
safety reports, meeting notes, HR information, maintenance
outstanding requests. All staff and production workers actively
used this as the main mechanism for communicating internally and
with the rest of the mill.
Environmental and safety
Supervised the Environmental Lab. As part of Safety Committee, wrote
chemical equipment design criteria, chemical procedures, and initiated the
computer MSDS tracking system. Designed the approval process for FDA
chemical compliance.
