WORK EXPERIENCE
**** - **** ******** **** ****. Greenville, S.C. & Dothan, Al
Initially employed by Michelin in Greenville, S.C. as a curing mold
designer working with tire engineers to develop curing molds for new tire
designs. Worked also as NC Programming supervisor and as Mold Design
supervisor.
Transferred to Michelin's Dothan, Alabama plant's engineering department as
a mechanical design engineer responsible for supporting the plants current
and future production needs; reducing costs; addressing ergonomic, safety
and environmental issues; addressing specific process problems and any
machine failures. Design work performed was for all areas of the plant that
included material processing equipment, tire building equipment, tire
curing equipment, inspection equipment, transport equipment, and plant
utilities.
Design projects involved modifying or redesigning tire building equipment
to speed up the process; to increase capacity; to adapt to a new process;
to address ergonomic, reliability, or quality issues. Each design project
involved a feasibility analysis of various design concepts; a cost analysis
of the design concept chosen; interaction with outside suppliers and
component fabricators; the final design installation and detail drawings
with material lists; project timeline and FMEA; the procurement of material
and parts; assembly and installation; commissioning and startup.
Examples of projects responsible for:
. Designed and installed new drive systems to control the
acceleration and deceleration of rotating equipment for precise
start/stops and decreased process time.
. Purchased and installed three elevated enclosed spray cooling baths
for cooling extruded rubber prior to windup. Designed and installed
maintenance safety platforms for access to the bath and an inline
weight monitoring system prior to product windup.
. Transferred a complete machine from production at another plant;
installed it on new foundation/support at our plant; designed and
procured necessary process modifications to components; designed
and procured material staging and product exit transport equipment;
designed and connected to existing utilities; assisted in the start
up and commissioning of the machine; and followed up after
production start.
. Redesigned conveyor system to incorporate auto sorting of product.

Evening Drafting Instructor
Taught manual and AutoCAD drafting for mechanical, electrical, residential
& commercial architectural drafting. Introduced students to English and
metric units, first and third angle projection, descriptive geometry,
various measuring devices, implied and functional datum's, geometric
dimensioning and tolerancing, fits, dimensional tolerancing, and
elementary statistical studies.
1976 - 1980 Allis Chalmers Corp. Jackson, Mississippi
Product/Design Engineer
Started in engineering department learning the company's power circuit
breaker products and their design. Was given the responsibility of the
mechanical engineering for a specific oil breaker product line to assist
the sales department with estimates and documentation for special orders.
Worked with electrical engineer co-worker to redesign a 63KVA oil circuit
breaker to reduce its cost 25% and accommodate shorter more economical
power bushings. Designed a new concept mechanism for breaking the circuit
at the necessary break velocity, decelerating to a stop, and reconnecting
the circuit (closing) while re-energizing the breaker in case of another
line fault. Hands on assisted with the fabrication of a prototype
redesigned breaker, and successfully static and power tested the unit at
the Westinghouse test facility in Pittsburg, Pa. Implemented the new design
into production with two pre-production units built to develop process
changes necessary for production of the new design. Created new operators
documentation, including a spare parts list.
