Professional Experience
ALCAN CABLE, ROSEBURG, OR 2004-2010
Electronics Technician
Manage factory floor projects involving machine motion, process control,
safety systems, data logging and operator interface. Work closely with
production management and machine operators to produce equipment that is
safe, performs to expectations and meets or exceeds plant objectives.
Design, specify, procure and implement hardware, software code and
operation documents for successful project completion and production start-
up. Provide technical support for plant operations.
. Replace obsolete 10 Unit Sauna steam controls with PLC and operator
interface. Design and obtain bids on electrical panel, oversee
installation, develop control program algorithm and commission
equipment.
. Engineer and develop PLC program code for a cable rewind line designed
for a new product. Five networked AC vector drive sections were
coordinated together to obtain very smooth and precise operation
necessary for this product.
. Automate PVC, HDPE and Resin pellet gates at extruders. This project
decreased gate selection errors and resultant plastic cross
contamination by almost 100%. This "green" project also reduced the
amount of plastic compound sent to the landfill.
industrial electric service co., Arcata, CA 1973-2004
Applications Engineering Technician
Layout, assemble and test electrical control panels to UL508
specifications. Provide customer phone support and field service for PLC
and AC/DC drive products throughout North America. Assist engineering team
in design, drawings, specification and software development of custom
electrical systems. R&D work, bench, repair, prototype and test of CMOS,
TTL and HTL circuits.
. Create and maintain customer motor database to track repairs and
service schedules. DC motor brush surveys were indexed to the
customers motor to speed brush identification for sales and motor shop
work orders.
. Co-managed a modernization project for the dual bridge crane at the
Hyatt Power Plant, Oroville Dam for the State of California. Developed
control logic required to synchronize four independent hooks, trolleys
and two bridge travels. The new controls reduced the long and tedious
turbine hoisting or lowering operation time by at least 500%.
