. WORK EXPERIENCE
. Instructor (evening classes) 10/2010-
Present
. Scott Community College, Kahl Educational Center, Davenport, IA
. Currently Teaching Game Design course
. Taught Intro to computers course in fall 2010
. Senior Systems Analyst / VR Developer 04/2000
- 08/2010
. JTM Concepts, Inc, Rock Island, IL
. Worked on-site with Department of Defense (DOD) customer at a local
Military Installation for 1 year. In this capacity developed WWW
applications for war fighter and logistics support. Learned Cold
Fusion "on the job" and quickly found myself producing work of
equivalent or better quality than my predecessors and peers.
. Implement Visual Simulations & Virtual Reality (VR) tools for
training and product visualization. Instructors were not
consistently provided with training hardware at customer sites and
had to cancel or abbreviate courses. Using VR, the instructor could
bring their own "hardware" to the class.
. Created "virtual showroom" of proposed vehicle concepts for our
customers to sell to THEIR customers. In this way, future product
concepts could be demonstrated and sold prior to the vehicles
actual construction. This program worked and the vehicle was a big
success.
. Conducted technical and audience participation demos of VR
technology in the office and on the road, including major trade
shows. This effort helped secure funding for JTM.
. Front line supervisor of the Simulation and Integration group.
Responsibilities included technical direction for the people in my
group, coordinating efforts with the company's direction, and daily
supervision. Interviewed, recommended for hire, etc.
. Provided technical content to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for
solicitations for new work, providing written or graphic
descriptions providing the look and feel of the proposed solution.
. Instructor (evening classes) 01/2005-
05/2005
. Black Hawk College West, Moline, IL
. Taught internet programming courses, topics included: HTML,
Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, Basic, "C/C++" programming.
. Instructor (evening classes) 10/2001-
07/2004
. Scott Community College, Kahl Educational Center, Davenport, IA
. Taught internet programming courses, topics included: HTML,
Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, Perl, PHP,"C/C++" programming.
Was able motivate and retain several "at risk" students who may
have otherwise left the program. Received very high reviews by
students and supervisors.
. Provides an opportunity to "give back" and help others find a
career as others had done for me. This work also helps keep my
technical, presentation, & perception skills "up to speed".
. Developer / Instructor 07/1999 -
04/2000
. Mid-States Technical Staffing (Entegee), Davenport, IA
. Contractor for JTM Concepts, Inc. at Rock Island Arsenal, US Army
TACOM
. Worked as a contractor for JTM concepts, developing web
applications using Cold Fusion, Java Script, etc. for US Army
TACOM.
. Computer Science Instructor & Dept. Chair at American Institute of
Commerce.
. Taught Microsoft Certification (MCSE) and Comp-TIA A+ training to
prepare students to take certification exams. Had a very good
success rate with students passing cert exams. Also conducted a
"workshop" where students built their own PC's in a "build it
Saturday" held in the cafeteria.
. Consultant / Programmer 10/1998 -
07/1999
. Norstan Consulting, Inc, Minneapolis, MN (currently not active)
. Created Document Management System (DMS) for the "Vantage Point
Network" group. The goal was to move away from using Microsoft
Outlook as an ad hoc document management system (ASP & C).
. Prior to this worked at John Deere Information Services (JDIS) with
network performance testing for Applications (using routers &
switches) simulating usage at remote locations.
. Consultant / Developer 07/1991 -
10/1998
. National Tech Team, Inc, Southfield, MI
. Held various development and leadership positions while at Ford:
. Initially developed PC and Server solutions for a single department
(120 users) to be used as a prototype for other locations (1500
people). This solutions included PC clients with NETBIOS, TCP/IP,
"Asynch" serial network, and IBM 3270 Terminal emulation, and OS/2
Print file and Application Server Infrastructure.
. Work included creation of the Centralized Software Management
System or "CoSMoS", utilized to load over 700 computers via the
network. CoSMoS was the functional precursor to the Software
Distribution System (SDS) later developed at Ford Powertrain
Operations, and eventually propagated throughout much of the
company.
. Following relocation to Division offices, my initial responsibility
was managing 200 Print, File, and Applications (PFA) servers within
20 manufacturing plants in the Midwest. Later this expanded to 40,
then 80, and when our division merged with several others this grew
to over 500 servers worldwide.
. I was a participant and key speaker at "Road Show" events,
showcasing Ford Powertrain corporate solutions in the USA, Mexico,
and Europe. Later I returned to assist in roll-out of servers and
client infra-structure providing assistance in integrating local
content and systems. This work was instrumental in integrating the
IT solution set across Ford Motor Company. The cost savings was
very significant due to reduced "duplication of effort", technology
transfer, increased teamwork, and centralized purchase of hardware.
. It was considered unusual that as a consultant, I traveled for
extended periods within and out of the United States, serving as
liaison, and in all cases representative of the organization often
attending "high level" meetings representing my supervisor,
manager, and our divisional manager.
. For the final two years at Ford, I provided technical expertise
Experimental Engineering (a former customer) spearheading efforts
to update PC infrastructure, develop a web presence for the
division within Ford, and migrate existing standalone database
applications to the WWW.
. I was key in cost savings to this activity as I was able to upgrade
and cascade move the hardware during a site wide upgrade process
for Servers, PC's and the network itself. This provided ALL users
with a "better PC" than they started with following the migration.
. Programmer - Ameritech 03/1990-
07/1991
Troy, MI (Company no longer exists)
. Managed existing applications, and providing program fixes for Sun
workstations and DEC VAX mainframe running custom software system.
. Served as the Technical Project Manager on two internal projects
for several months.
. Consultant - Ford Motor Company 10/1989-
03/1990
Decision Consultants, Inc, Southfield, MI
. Developed infrastructure for IBM OS/2 1.2 servers and Windows 3.0
clients. The purpose was deploying networked application software.
Much of this work was the basis of the technology utilized by Ford
IT groups for much of the next 10 years.
. The net cost savings of the work done starting at this time was
quite large, as it ushered in the widespread use of served
applications and utilization of File servers for backing up user
data on the PC.
. Systems Engineer Development (SED) 06/1988-
10/1989
Electronic Data Systems - Plano, TX
. While EDS was traditionally a "mainframe" based organization,
unlike others in the SED program, I was involved (due to my strong
PC background) with the implementation of this "new" technology. In
this capacity, I designed and installed some of the first Local
Area Networks in the plant
. Also developed and implemented the first standardized DOS users
"menu system" interface for PC users in the plant.
. RELATED SKILLS
. Received my Microsoft MCP Certification in December of 2001
. Regular Participant in "career day" and "diversity" events for
Elementary and High School students
. Contributed time and expertise to the design & construction of a
"Ghost Bridge" on the Mississippi river. A simulation of the first
bridge and its early demise was projected on a water screen 150
feet across by 30 feet high using water nozzles. After consulting
with "major players" in this area from around the country and
Europe, I successfully improvised and emulated the nozzles used by
Disney (Fantasia) and other water shows for a very nominal cost.
