monitor and optimize database performance.
Technology/Tools Used: MS SQL Server 2000/2005, Idera, VB.NET, SQL, PL/SQL
ORACLE Database Administrator, AOL, Santa Monica, CA
May 2008 - August 2008
. Created Intranet statistics packages for business development
group by data mining Oracle database.
. Set up Enterprise Manager to enable graphical interface for non-
technical individuals to monitor the database
. Deployed new PL/SQL code into the QA and Production environments
as needed.
. Developed a system to monitor functioning of database using PHP
pages and stored procedures in
Oracle
. Joined Boards development team and was responsible for building
out of all necessary procedures, packages, functions and triggers.
Technology/Tools Used: Oracle 10g, TOAD, PLSQL, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL
Project Leader, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai,
India June 2006 - May 2007
. Actively managed cross-functional teams (Engineering and Quality
Assurance) to accomplish the goals of the project, GNOWSYS, a kernel for
semantic computing (www.gnowsys.org) .
. GNOWSYS helps bring structure to all the gnowledge(sharable
knowledge) available on the internet.
. The parameters for testing were data security, integrity,
scalability and archiving in an e-learning environment.
. This project also included the testing of various GnowQL library
functions.
. Developed code for data migration of the data in ATutor (an Open
Source Web-based Learning Content Management System (LCMS) from SQL to
GnowQL
. Data migration was done with reference to the SCORM standards.
. Scripted test cases in Python to enable different testing
strategies.
. Configured test cases for unit testing, load testing, stress
testing, regression and incremental integration testing.
Technology/Tools Used: Python, PERL, CVS, GnowQL, ZOPE, ZODB, SCORM, MySQL
PROJECTS
Website scrapping and Mashup Application
. Implemented server side scripting using PERL to scrap websites.
. The website used in this project was tv.yahoo.com/listings.
. TV listings were dynamically extracted into XML files,
. These files were then passed through Java Servlets in JSON format.
. Implemented client side scripting and Google Maps API to parse
JSON files.
. The data was then displayed on Google Maps
Technology/Tools Used: Perl, AJAX, JSON, XML, JavaScript, HTML, Java
Servlets and Google mashups
Web Technology, XML Parser and DOM
. Websites were scraped into XML format.
. An XML parser was used to parse the results of scraping the
website.
. The results were accessed using JavaScript and DOM and were
dynamically displayed.
Technology/Tools Used: HTML, XML, DOM and JavaScript
Computer Networks (Socket Programming)
. Implemented client server architecture using TCP and UDP protocols
on UNIX in C.
. Simulated a network consisting of self organizing set of nodes to
discover and communicate with each other
. This communication took place in a Client - Server environment
using TCP and UDP sockets.
. Initially, status messages were sent in the form of UDP packets in
phase 1
. The data was sent using TCP data packets in phase 2.
Technology/Tools used: C, TCP/IP, UDP on UNIX Platform.
Software Engineering, Los Angeles Personnel Department
. Interacted with Clients during the requirement gathering phase.
. Identified the need to improve the searching technique and also to
re-design the database.
. The Agile method of Software Development was used to develop a
prototype.
. The prototype was presented to the client for their approval.
. Gaps were identified and were bridged.
. COCOMO was used to estimate the effort to complete the project.
Technology/Tools Used: Visual Basic, MS Access, COCOMO, MS Project,
Distributed Assessment of Risk Tool(DART), Rational Software Modeler.
Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and Mining
. Working with the USC Marshall School of Business to create a data
warehouse.
. The data warehouse consisted of a large database designed using
the snowflake schema.
. It was mined using business intelligence software MicroStrategy.
. The objective of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of
data mining and applications of business intelligence algorithms to a data
warehouse.
Technology/Tools Used: MicroStrategy, MS Access, Oracle 10g, SQL, PL/SQL
Face Recognition System, Brain Theory and Artificial intelligence
. Developed a system that learnt to recognize human faces using a
back propagation network.
. The system was trained using a back propagation network by showing
it a list of faces.
. Another set of faces were used to validate the results of the
earlier set.
. In the last phase, the system was tested with a third set of
faces.
