Job Objective
Working in the field of communications and utilizing the skills I have learned to expand my knowledge base in an
environment that is challenging. A degree in English has prepared me to communicate, both in person and in writing, to a
diverse group of people. The study of English expands past text and into computers, public speaking, analysis, editing,
research, documentation, close readings and interpretations of text, and an ability to conform to the language and needs
of the people around me.
Experience
Bell Family Care Provider September 2010 Current
My position with the Bell family was unique. I chose to change my employment status during my senior year at
UNC so that I could focus on my studies. I took employment with the Bell family as a nanny to assist Mrs.
Bell with her children while her husband was deployed for 10 months in Afghanistan. My duties were
extensive, exceeding the norm of nanny responsibilities and entering into parenthood with Mrs. Bell. I
utilized more of my communication and planning skills in this position than in any formal position I had
ever held. In addition to caring for her family, I had to help manage schedules, medications, stress levels,
family dynamics, and emotional needs. The skills acquired while with the Bell family, though not in an
executive or traditional environment, have prepared me to deal with and communicate with families and the
needs that are not met through the community.
