Engineering Manager and HOS Site Leader September 2010
- Present
Honeywell - Prestone, Freehold, NJ
Overall responsibility for the Engineering department and implementing Honeywell
Operating Systems (HOS).
Project manager on $3.7 million project to in-source the plastic bottle
manufacturing for the Prestone products car care group. Successfully led project
from feasibility and capital request, through to planning and
execution/commissioning. Project delivers an annual run rate savings of $2.3
million.
Used Honeywell's Standard Transition Program (STP) framework to in-source the bottle
manufacturing. STP framework can also be deployed for repositioning, and outsourcing
projects.
Worked with a cross functional team including Marketing, Finance, Research and
Development, and third party suppliers to ensure smooth transition from generic
bottles to new branded bottles.
Project manager for other projects to deliver bottom line savings of over
$300,000.00 annually including;
Improving the Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) of the car care line - $166,500.00
annual save
Implementing and installing RF System for better inventory management - $86,000.00
annual save
"Winterization" of mix tank to enable year round Bugwash production - $45,000.00
annual save
Managed non-capital engineering projects to improve site safety performance by
addressing potential safety hazards. Led the maintenance team on local maintenance
projects to improve equipment uptime and improve equipment reliability. Worked with
maintenance team to implement a robust PM program on site.
Led the deployment and implementation of Honeywell's lean platform - HOS across the
site. Delivered savings in material replenishment, direct ship to customer, reduced
inventory, head count, and cycle time. The Prestone site was certified as a HOS
BRONZE site under my leadership in June 2011.
Spearheading the employee development program for hourly employees to increase
opportunities for growth within the organization and empower employees to continue
developing professionally. Organized and coordinated both on-line and in person
training to aid employee skill development.
Manager performance review: - "Very good project planning skills and maintains a
good follow-up system. He is result driven and effectively communicates with his
team members and management partners." 2010.
Electrodes Process Specialist September 2008
- September 2010
Honeywell Analytics, Poole, United Kingdom.
Process specialist, responsible for planning, and scheduling production to meet
customer demand.
Technical and operations authority for the automated catalytic electrode
manufacturing facility;
Produced over six million electrodes in 2009 at over 99% yield.
Maintained leading KPI on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory.
Managed 2 departments - a team of 14 employees, including engineers, technicians and
operators.
Used Honeywell Performance Development process to track and plan employee career
progress.
Shared Center of Excellence best practices in electrodes manufacturing with other
Honeywell sites.
Project leader on six sigma greenbelt project to reformulate platinum and iridium
inks used in the manufacture of gas detection electrodes for gas sensors. Competent
in statistical analysis using Minitab.
New sensors had better process capability and faster response time than the obsolete
sensors.
Employed 6? tools including but not limited to process map, capability analysis,
ANOVA, FMEA.
Responsible for implementing HOS initiatives in electrode and exotics manufacturing
facilities including; 5S, visual management, standard work, tiered meetings, kaizen
events, and rapid problem solving.
Supported multi-site project to develop a more robust oxygen gas detector with
longer operation life than previous oxygen gas detector. Developed a process to
remove the flux (poisoning agent) from the electrode core prior to detector
assembly. Project was initiated as a result of Honeywell's 'One Sensor' initiative.
Led the exotics gas detection line improvement project. Improved rolled throughput
yield for exotic gas detectors from 55% to 76%. Implemented robust tests for better
cell reliability, leading to reduced failures.
Implemented kanbans to improve supplier reliability and prevent line shut downs due
to material shortages.
Manager performance review: - "Chika has had a successful year, delivering solid
performance with respect to S.Q.D.C.I. in electrodes. Significant improvement has
been made with respect Safety awareness of his team and driving down inventory in
electrodes. Chika worked hard on the Sensors manufacturing projects to deliver the
new Iridium / platinum Ink and wash process for the soldered anode." 2009
Chemical Process Engineer October 2006
- September 2008 Oxford Catalysts Group, Oxford, United Kingdom.
Process design engineer responsible for new catalyst simulation, testing and
prototype development.
Member of a engineering team that designed and assembled an electrically independent
"instant-steam" generator capable of delivering over 70 Liters/min of steam at
standard pressure and variable temperature between 300 F and 480 F. Runner-up
Kirkpatrick's Chemical Engineering Excellence award (2007).
Developed other applications for employer's proprietary steam technology, including
"Steam in a Bottle ". Steam in a bottle demonstration video is available at
www.oxfordcatalysts.com - see video.
Lead engineer responsible for developing and testing natural gas and liquefied
petroleum gas steam reforming catalysts for use in Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
fuel cells.
Designed and safely operated a pilot steam reformer for 1 year, with replica CHP
conditions.
Worked closely with client and The Carbon Trust to understand requirements and set
milestones.
