PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Freelance Designer – Graphic and Interior Design (1990 – present)

Logo design and business packages, custom hang tags, heat transfers, labels, invitations and cards,

promotional business materials, assisted with web graphics and design, personalized party favors

and custom centerpieces. Coordinated and implemented all art and design for fundraising efforts,

including brochures, tickets and related flyers.

Experience in women’s and children’s clothing, screen print, heat transfer and appliqué design, as

well as textile design repeats, screens and jacquard weaves. Worked with printers and screen

printers preparing art for print and color separations.

All phases of residential interior design, drafting floor plans, vignettes, accessorizing and 3 D

model building. Extensive and unique designs for presentations and displays.

Farmingdale State College – Lab Consultant/Technician (2007 2009)

Worked both paid and volunteer hours during school. Job duties included researching, ordering and

organization of lab supplies and equipment. Set up a database in MS Access of lab equipment,

vendors and contact information and redesigned purchasing/ordering forms while maintaining

Grant information.

Received extensive training in sterile Laboratory techniques and tissue culture. Prepared media for

cell growth, did cell viability counts and reseeding of new cultures. Cultured sheets of Caco 2

(human colon cancer cells) as part of a coordinated effort between Farmingdale College and

Brookhaven National Laboratory and worked with culturing K562 cells (immortalized human

leukemia cells).

Brookhaven National Laboratory (2009) participated in SULI (Science Undergraduate

Laboratory Internship) where I continued research work with Caco2 cells regarding the exposure

of colon cells with aqueous aged carbon nanotubes and their side effects. While there I was able to

observe the platinum coating of nanotubes treated cells in preparation for observation under a

scanning electron microscope (SEM) and was trained in the proper procedures for setting up and

using the transmission electron microscope (TEM).

Created and presented a poster at the end of the summer internship which was chosen as 1 of 100

nationwide finalists and I was invited to present the poster at Oakridge National Laboratory in

Tennessee.

During my internship, I aided the Department of Energy (DOE) at the lab in redesigning some of

their presentations to make them more audience friendly and modifiable for future needs. I was

also invited to do a "brown bag" lunch presentation, which is an informal meeting of department

members, to show others in the department how their presentations, typically done in MS

PowerPoint, could be modified to target specific audiences.

Expo Design Center – Home Décor Specialist (2006 – 2009)

Included but not limited to designing and sketching custom soft window treatments and window

hardware, creative displays of merchandise, and selections of fabric, wall paper, custom furniture

and accessories for our clients. Consulted with vendors, expeditors, installers and work room from

project start to completion. Handled all phases of customer service and satisfaction, departmental

pricing and maintenance. I was also a member of the employee committee, developing and

executing ideas for fundraising efforts.

Land n’ Sea Incorporated– Art Director/Designer (1986 1990)

Analyzed current and future trends in fashion, adapting them to the company’s specific needs and

budget. Created new concepts and techniques for screen printing, appliqué, heat transfer and

embroidery for both domestic and overseas production. Supervised the art department and

domestic screen print production area for the company’s plant in South Caroling. Created and

developed a working production system, overseeing all details from design to final approvals. Also

carried out the drafting and development of presentation boards for sales presentation. Creation of

logos, labels, hang tags and other promotional media.
