JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the identification, render-safe, and final disposal of hazardous conventional,
chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, (CBRN) and improvised explosive devices (IED) on Fort
Riley, Kansas in support of the 1st Infantry Division and 5 states within the 84th Ordnance Battalion
(EOD) AO North; supports the United States Secret Service (USSS) and State Department in the
protection of the President (POTUS), Vice President (VPOTUS) and other foreign dignitaries;
presents classes on Bomb Threats, explosive effects, and explosive safety; provides EOD support
and training to law enforcement agencies in 5 states; responsible for over $1,250,000 of mission
essential and specialized CBRN equipment; directly supervises 9 Soldiers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School (2005)
Certified EOD Team Leader/Senior Badge EOD Technician
Over 5 years experience in Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operations and Logistics
Retain active TOP SECRET-Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) security
clearance (5 year periodic review completed May 2011)
Deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan)
Certified in the transportation, handling, and storage of Hazardous Materials (49 CFR)
Proficient with Microsoft Office and most desktop programs
Able to make quick, rational decisions in adversely stressful situations
EXPERIENCE
Intelligence, Investigation, & Exploitation
Provided technical information on US and foreign ordnance and IEDs.
Conducted multiple Sensitive Site Exploitations (SSE) during military operations in Afghanistan
Collected, sampled, and processed biometric evidence taken from explosive post blast sites, suspect
persons, and suspect terrorist sites.
Conducted tactical interrogation and questioning of suspects and witnesses during EOD CONUS and
OCONUS operations.
Prepared and briefed technical intelligence reports for first-seen ordnance with recommended
disposition for the items.
Conducted on-site assessment of enemy intentions and objectives.
Briefed enemy tactics-tendencies-procedures (TTPs), and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) to
supporting military units/commands in order to help aid commanders to assess operational safety to
effectively move troops safely around the battlefield.
Supported preplanned operations involving suspected or confirmed bomb-making facilities, caches,
and/or HME factories.
X-rayed, analyzed, and interpreted film of IEDs, suspect IEDs, and related electronic components.
Conducted fragmentation analysis and post-blast forensics analysis as part of an accident/incident
investigations.
Counter-Terrorism Operations
Responded to IEDs in support of military operations in theaters of war, Homeland Defense, and
civil authorities.
Responded to, researched, identified, rendered-safe, and disposed of 1000’s of foreign and
domestic military munitions (conventional and chemical weapons), unconventional munitions (IED’s and
booby-traps), and other hazardous materials and/or devices throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa,
and deployment to Afghanistan.
Worked in support of TF Paladin (JIEDDO) during OEF deployment.
Monitored CBRN operational hazards in order to advise soldiers and civilians of necessary
precautions to observe to mitigate associated hazards.
Patrolled runways, populated communities, and off-road routes to promote safety and mitigate
hazards for civilians, soldiers, and military equipment.
Very familiar all aspects of Homemade Explosives (HME): manufacture, production, and
detection.
Familiar with the Biometric Automated Toolset (BATs) in counter-terrorism operations.
Electronics
Proficient with the operational use of multiple EOD robotics platforms (Talon, Packbot, and
Andros) in OCONUS and CONUS operations.
Attended basic and advanced electronic course with yearly re-certification.
Able to identify IED systems and components to include initiators, power supplies, and explosive
material.
Recognized as a subject matter expert in CREW (Counter Electronics Warfare) systems.
Military Training
Retain more than 1100 hours of EOD specific and relative counter-terrorism courses where both
classroom and hands-on instruction were utilized.
Tested and gave appropriate feedback to military and civilian companies on counter-IED tools,
products, and vehicles in order to help field the best possible equipment for fellow troops overseas.
Support to Military and Civil Authorities
Provided immediate response to explosive ordnance and IEDs incidents.
Provided training for key military personnel, federal agencies, and public officials involved with
civil emergency preparedness, law enforcement, and fire protection, as to how to search, identify, and render-
safe IEDs.
Operated in conjunction with the USSS, coordinating various VIP protectee missions to include:
POTUS, VPOTUS, First Lady, Secretary of State, and other important foreign and domestic dignitaries.
Entrusted with promoting National Security by physically clearing VIP protectee locations of explosive
hazards.
Trained, mentored and certified 3 EOD soldiers to transition to the role of an EOD Team Leader.
Trained over 60 EOD soldiers and 100 soldiers from A Trp, 4/4 CAV, and 1 st CAB on OCONUS
EOD Response, US and enemy TTPs, Homemade Explosives (HME), and EOD lessons learned from personal
experience prior to their deployment in support of Iraq or Afghanistan.
Performed as a liaison for satellite military installations, intelligence, and law enforcement
agencies to establish a working relationship for EOD response and joint operational training.
Leadership/Supervision
Supervised as many as three 3-man EOD teams at any one time
Managed the company's Security section with zero loss or compromise of classified or sensitive
materials over the course of 5 years
Served as the Commander's representative for the Unit's monthly status reporting; never missing a
suspense to Battalion, Group, or Division through 18 monthly reporting cycles
Safety/Panning
Safely transported, handled, and stored explosives and other hazardous materials during
OCONUS and CONUS operations through multiple states with no accidents or incidents.
Planned, coordinated and served as Range Safety Officer (RSO) for over 20 EOD training ranges
on Fort Riley with zero accidents or incidents.
Advised subordinates, peers, and supervisors of adverse and/or unsafe situations as well as
communicated safer recourse actions to offset those operational conditions.
Calculated blast overpressure and fragmentation distances of explosives to assess hazards so that
proper safe areas could be established for EOD team and military or civilian authorities to work and local
civilian property to remain intact.
