Highlights: Tasked with the building project management, line installation
and commercialization of a novel potato chip manufacturing line. This was a
economic develop initiative with the goal of producing a line that would
result in a $12 million annual production capacity and yield 30 jobs for
the area.
. Work with management on all aspects of project management related to
building infrastructure installation, line equipment installation,
electrical, HVAC, gas, and other internal building systems.
. Coordinate with equipment and line design/install team on all aspects
of equipment installation, trouble shoot and where necessary develop
solutions to equipment needs and refurbishing. This line needed a
great deal of internal refurbishment to come into federal and state
compliance in such systems as electrical and mechanicals. Tasked with
line audit and assessing economic impact of line refurbishment.
. Conduct formulation and product manufacturing scale up
experimentation. Specification and set-up of QC lab and establish
line operation critical control points. Develop and maintain supplier
database and specifications. Coordinate with installation team results
of all internal experimentation and guide input to line modifications
and improvements.
. Develop product packaging specifications and packaging line rebuild.
Work with suppliers to develop novel approach to a baked stackable
snack production and packaging at required manufacturing output rates.

Production Plant
Highlights: Originally hired as Production Supervisor - Packaging Unit in
the Quincy, Washington facility promoted to the following positions of
increasing responsibility: Process/Quality Supervisor, Quality Assurance
Supervisor, Shift Superintendent, and finally in 1995 to Production
Superintendent in the Park Rapids, Minnesota plant - a continuous process
environment.
. Part of the management team responsible for increasing productivity
from $95 million to over $170 million annually (an 80% increase.)
. Functioned as Plant Manager in the absence of the Plant Manager during
2005 managing all areas of manufacturing and production, operations
and administrative management; facilities management, development and
implementation of operational policies and procedures; strategic
planning; profit improvement and cost-containment programs; budget
development and administration.
. Contributed to new product development; integration and implementation
of new manufacturing systems; manufacturing and testing support;
materials testing and support; quality management; designing training
materials and implementation of training programs; customer service
and support; customer relations; conducting plant tours; and staff
hiring, training, and development. Responsible for managing staffs up
to 425 and annual budgets exceeding $120 million.
. Led the management team responsible for developing and implementing
new standard operating procedures to reorganize manufacturing
procedures. Implemented new policies and procedures, eliminate plant
inefficiencies, and coordinated all facility departments. Result was
an increase in productivity from a 37% increase in raw product
recovery saving $8,450,000 annually in production cost and a
concurrent reversal of a loss operation to a $12,000,000 pre-tax
profit through more efficient operating procedures.
. Member of the team responsible for the design and implementation of an
improved facility Quality Assurance Program. Led the implementation
of an SPC process to establish new Total Quality Management procedures
along with enhanced performance standards. Result was a 50% reduction
in customer complaints, substantially improved food safety levels
(exceeding Institute of Baking standards,) and a savings of millions
of dollars annually in the retention of previously dissatisfied
customers.
. Managed the turnaround and trained the production staff to increase
productivity in a poorly performing production line through the
incorporation of a Continuous Process Improvement program and the
integration of an improved plant computer control system. Result was
a daily production increase of over 200,000 lbs leading to over
$25,000,000 in new annual revenues. The process was subsequently
implemented in all three production lines increasing manufacturing
capability by 50%.
. Managed the plant's profit improvement program. Directed the
implementation of new manufacturing, reporting, and production
systems; improved layouts, warehouse storage, inventory control, and
materials management processes. Operational savings exceeded
$1,500,000 over a five-year period.
. Developed and implemented an employee staff training, empowerment, and
mentoring program to increase productivity and enhance moral. Result
was a major increase in quality of performance, a substantial
improvement in plant safety, and a concurrent reduction in staff
turnover from 75% annually to under 20% annually.
