I am very motivated to develop a strong career path where I can add value
in a positive and dynamic environment in luxury and lifestyle consumer
goods.
Within my 20 year career, beyond my business consulting background with
KPMG, I have 10 years of highly relevant experience in premium branded
luxury / lifestyle consumer goods involving commercial management,
strategic planning and business development, primarily with the adidas
Group.
I highlight below key aspects of my background and experience relevant for
the role I am seeking:
. Premium / Luxury: I have spent >10 years in premium branded consumer
goods, mostly within the adidas Group (TaylorMade-adidas Golf -'TMaG')
and currently with Gibson Music (Gibson guitars and Baldwin pianos).
Through this experience, I have become confident with the sales channels,
marketing activities and consumer behaviour for premium luxury /
lifestyle products. Beyond my career affiliation, these products /
markets are a personal interest and passion.
. Strategy & vision: For >3 years with TMaG, I was the 'point person' for
the development, then implementation of a global strategic planning
process that was the hub between the CEO, the 6 commercial regions and
all HQ functional areas. I was also responsible for KPI development /
management and regular market visits. Furthermore, I have lead the
development and execution of overall business strategies, channel /
distribution development plans (including own retail, flagship,
franchisee, wholesale, distribution, clearance), business reviews and
marketing plans in general management roles in Greater China, Korea and
Malaysia.
. International / Asia: My international experience is tremendous, with the
past 12 years of my career having been spent internationally -based in
Europe, the Americas and Asia, and operating in over 30 different
countries around the world. The past 7 years have largely been focused in
Asia, where I have directed business in all major markets, and
specifically been based in Greater China (>3 years), Korea (>1 year) and
Malaysia (~6 months). I have developed contacts and partners in
retail/wholesale, marketing, media, etc, throughout the region.
. Relationship management: For 15 years, I have assembled, lead and
motivated teams to 75 members, across various cultures and geographies.
My strength has been in building effective collaborative relationships
with organizations, customers, business partners and functional support
teams. This has frequently been in the context of leading business
planning / process improvement and liaising between global headquarters
and regional / country level units.
. Cross-functionality: My educational background and early career
experience provides an excellent base in all aspects of budgeting,
forecasting and planning. I have formally transitioned to 'the commercial
world' in the past 8 years, and taken on full P/L responsibility for
international business units with Sales levels from $5m - $100m p.a.,
together with related marketing spend and working capital management
(inventory and receivables). This has involved sales management with
pricing strategy, policy development, targeting and account planning, as
well as marketing leadership over communications, promotions, trade
marketing, product management, events / PR, sports / entertainment
marketing, etc.
. Business development: For nearly 10 years, I have been heavily involved
in identifying, developing and implementing business opportunities, eg
establishing a Gibson flagship retail store in Shanghai, integration of
adidas Golf product into >1,000 adidas retail stores in Asia, creation of
a 'resort-model' for TMaG, etc. With the Europe, China and Korea markets,
I have successfully faced the challenges of 'start-up' and 'turnaround'
scenarios. I have lead investment and divestiture projects such as:
transitioning country-level distributors in Europe and Asia to
'internalize' the business; due diligence / negotiation to acquire new
brands for global integration; and implementation / management of
franchisee, distributor and licensee partners.
. Brand image and operational effectiveness: 10 years with the adidas Group
taught me relentlessness in pursuit of brand image and retail quality
-often across cultures where the same philosophy may not be innate. I
have a vast array of experience in evaluation and development of
processes, procedures and policies aimed to enhance effectiveness and
control, eg I lead the development of the Global Policy Manual for best
practices within the adidas Group.
With my background and experience, I consider myself to be a 'financially
astute business decision-maker and entrepreneur'. I thank you for your
consideration, and look forward to hear back from you on this potential
role at your earliest convenience.
