Chief Information Officer
I served as the strategic leader for the company's information technology
organization. I was charged with defining the strategies and priorities
for Whataburger's information technology department and aligning the
internal and external resources required to support that strategy. I
maintained full responsibility for the development and management of a $15
million department budget for an IT organization that provided; all
application development and support for the corporate and restaurant
systems; the technology architecture, infrastructure, converged network,
and Help Desk services required to run the day-to-day technology services
of the company.
Major Accomplishments:
. Created an organization plan and hired a staff of highly skilled
technology Directors, Managers, and IT staff that were responsible for
the development, support, and maintenance of all enterprise systems
and services. This organization re-design moved the IT department
from a staff augmentation to permanent employee model and reduced the
annual IT budget by $1.2 million.
. Provided oversight and was accountable for the relocation of all
technology assets that occurred during the headquarters move from
Corpus Christi to San Antonio, TX. The design, set-up, and
implementation activities were performed by my IT infrastructure team
on-time, within budget, and with no major interruption in any
telecommunication or production system services.
. Created and staffed a highly effective IT PMO that: successfully
delivered major business and IT initiatives; designed and implemented
an IT Governance model to ensure standard operating
procedures/processes were adhered to by the entire IT department; and
that instituted a Quality Assurance testing process that eliminated
the majority of software defects prior to production system
implementations.
. Developed a technology acquisition strategy for the purchase and
integration of newly acquired restaurants.

Responsible for establishing and delivering the technology strategy for
more than 1,600 restaurants in 24 countries (Chili's Grill & Bar, Romano's
Macaroni Grill, On Tthe Border Mexican Grill & Cantina and Maggiano's
Little Italy). In addition, I was accountable for aligning solutions with
business processes and priorities across the portfolio of brands.
. Developed and implemented a restaurant technology strategy and
department organization model to support technology innovation in the
restaurants
. Provided oversight on all software development activities for a custom
POS system used by all Brinker owned restaurants. Software
development requirements were defined by Brinker IT and developed and
tested by the Outsourced vendor.
. Created the strategy and plan for the replacement of the 20 year old,
custom built POS system. Selected Radiant Systems to perform the in-
restaurant pilot test of new, innovated technology solutions with
integration to Radiant's, Aloha POS system.

Was responsible for setting the direction and driving the selection,
development, and on-going support of retail technology systems for more
than 5,000 domestic, franchised restaurants (Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin-
Robbins, and Togo's). Focus was divided between developing the strategic
system needs for the future while maintaining the stability of existing,
legacy restaurant systems.
. Developed the retail technology services department into a trusted,
valued technology partner within Dunkin' Brands. This was accomplished
through a reorganization of the department and the building of strong,
collaborative business relationships with key internal business
stakeholders and franchisees.
. Lead the effort to consolidate and standardized the retail technology
systems that were available for franchisees to purchase and install in
new or rebuilt restaurants. Formed a Franchisee Advisory Council that
was instrumental in the selection and overall business design of the new
systems.
. Collaborating with a business cross-functional team developed the
technology strategy and tactical plan for the implementation of an
electronic payment program for Dunkin' Donuts franchised restaurants.
This included the implementation of a managed, high-speed, private
network, and the upgrade of legacy POS systems in order to process credit
and gift card payment.
. Developed the strategy to leverage the Dunkin' Donuts national
distribution system to negotiate volume purchase agreements for retail
systems and services, coordinate technology implementation projects, and
to manage retail systems service and support vendors.

Responsible for the development of IT initiatives to support Advantica's
business objectives. Provide direction and management of IT services,
including application development for corporate and restaurant systems, all
company telecommunication services, and the support services for 900
restaurants and 300 remote field users. Budgetary responsibility was 8.0M
annually with a staff of 35 FTE's.
. Lead the development of a three-year Decision Support strategy (DSS) to
support growth and other strategic initiatives such as improving
operating efficiencies and restaurant profitability.
. Developed the plan to redesign and replace all of Denny's Franchise
Management and Billing systems.
. Provided executive management of Advantica's outsourced agreement to
ensure all contractual responsibilities and service levels were met.
. Developed great working relationships with all levels of business
