Since 1986, I have operated a systems consulting practice. My clients have
been primarily large companies, including Staples, Cabela's, EMC
Corporation, John Hancock Mutual Funds, Fleet Financial Group, Wang
Laboratories, and MCI. Below is a list of highlight engagements.
9/2006-1/2009 Cabela's, Inc., Sidney, NE
Senior Consultant, Finance Team, Multi-Channel Transformation (MCT)
Project: Designed the modifications required to allow the client to
interface its financial and inventory applications with its overseas
vendors that were paid by letter of credit. It involved consulting with
Wachovia Bank, both domestically and overseas, to facilitate transfer of
letter of credit and invoice transactions from Hong Kong to Sidney.
Modifications to JDA EDI, Accounts Payable, Inventory and General Ledger
systems were required as well as to legacy applications. In addition,
participated in design and development of modifications required to upgrade
JDA MMS version 4R5 to 5R1 as well as sunsetting legacy financial
applications. Following implementation, provided support and maintenance
on MMS and legacy applications.
6/1996-6/2006 Staples, Inc., Framingham, MA
Senior Consultant and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in retail merchandise
management
systems for Staples North American Retail Division. Over a ten year span,
I was involved with many projects at Staples, either as a project
manager, technical lead, or developer. Projects have included:
Corporate-wide SKU purge project: Developed application framework and
program source code generator for deleting product data from multiple
systems. Directed analysis and research of several thousand SKU-related i
Series files and several hundred non-i Series applications. Worked with
the SKU purge task force to translate business rules into technical
specifications and developed SKU selection programs. Coordinated purge
application testing as well as regression testing of business applications
post-purge.
Corporate-wide damaged product disposition and disposal process: Provided
business process flow and systems analysis of multi-departmental damage
product disposal process. Designed application and system interfaces to
store and warehouse inventory systems as well as corporate vendor returns
system, including JDA and WMS systems.
"Easy Product" project: part of a multi-disciplinary team charged with
charting a migration path from legacy (i Series-based) to an n-tier based
corporate product database management system under co-development by
Staples and systems vendor Evant, Inc. Developed a repository used for
mapping legacy data to the new product database. Developed a program
source code generator for creating data extracts from the legacy database
to the enterprise application interface (EAI) to the new database.
Ad In Stock for the Customer Inquiry project: developed core application,
messaging and SQL package programming for the first green screen, RF gun
and browser faced customer service inquiry that displays both Retail and
Direct systems on hand and on order data to the store associate. Designed
and developed advertising circular substitute SKU policy application, which
utilizes both Microsoft Access and i Series databases.
Customer Experience improvement project: part of the corporate-wide Summit
supply chain improvements initiative, done in conjunction with Accenture,
Inc. Developed RF gun based zero balance and low balance stock walk and
reporting system. This project won a corporate award in 2004.
RF gun application architecture re-engineering: designed and developed an
application framework and new menu system for RF gun based systems.
Managed conversion of existing RF application programs to new framework.
Consignment SKU project: designed modifications to retail cash and
merchandise management systems to allow Staples to stock and sell
consignment products. This project entailed modifications to and/or
creation of hundreds of files and programs across Staples corporate
systems.
Spaceman to JDA interface project: designed the interface between the SQL
Server based Nielsen Spaceman store display design system and the i Series
based JDA merchandise management system. This project enabled allocation
of store display space to control store replenishment.
Staples Electronic Data Warehouse (EDW) project: Designed and developed
the iSeries based Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) process for the first
EDW at Staples. The EDW was a Unix/Oracle-based system utilizing client-
based data mining and inquiry tools.
Besides being a participant in these large projects, also performed such
roles as:
Developer, ad hoc user inquiries, reports and file download extracts, used
as data sources for Excel, Access and other Windows Office tools, including
a generic FTP-based file transfer application adopted across multiple i
Series.
Liaison to outside vendors and agencies, including the Federal Trade
Commission, Ernst & Young, LLC, store inventory liquidators, marketing
database firms, physical inventory and competitive price check vendors.
Mentor to corporate and offshore IS developers.
9/1995-5/1996 A. T. Cross, Inc., Lincoln, RI
Senior Consultant, MAC-PAC implementation project: provided analysis and
troubleshooting to client and Andersen Consulting during technical design
and testing phases of implementing Andersen's MAC-PAC order management and
manufacturing system by this pen manufacturer.
5/1994-8/1995 EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA and Cork, Ireland
Senior Consultant, MAC-PAC implementation project: designed modifications
to system's order bundle processing to handle client's substitute parts
customizations, as well as modifications to a number of package functions.
Made modifications to MAC-PAC system in Ireland as well.
3/1992-6/1993 EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA
Architect, Field Information and Retrieval System (FIRST): designed the
first AS/400 based application for the client. System was a marketing
information resource used by the clients' sales offices worldwide. It
included an AS/400 based text database, uploaded from MS Word documents,
accessed and downloaded to remote PCs via IBM PC Support.
6/1991-2/1992 Thomas Cook Travel, Cambridge, MA
Senior Consultant: interfaced Apollo and Sabre airline reservations systems
to MAX, travel accounting system to distribute corporate reports to
satellite travel offices in client headquarters. Developed credit
card/travel expense reconciliation application.
1/1990-5/1991 Wang Laboratories, Lowell, MA
Architect, Product Information Fulfillment system: designed a system that
interfaced Wang Office email system to an inbound call center application
developed using Early, Cloud & Co. TCS system. In another engagement, re-
engineered time accounting and billing system for Wang Information Service
Corp. (WISE), reducing monthly processing duration from nine days to one
day.
12/1988-12/1289 John Hancock Mutual Funds, Boston, MA
Senior Consultant. JHMF was a start-up operation when I was engaged by its
CEO to assist in various planning, development and implementation projects
for its Shareholder and Broker Services call centers. Authored a
methodology used for determining information resource requirements of
inbound customer services representatives (CSR). Developed an on line CSR
reference guide, utilizing TCS, the fourth generation call center
development system developed by Early, Cloud & Co.
2/1988-11/1988 Fleet Financial Group, Providence, RI
Functional Analyst for migration of lease database to a new package. Wrote
conversion specifications and policy and procedures documentation.
3/1986-10/1986 MCI Telecommunications Corp., Southfield, MI
Project Manager, Midwest Dial-1 gateway project: managed development and
maintenance of an application that acted as a gateway for fulfillment of
phone customer requests to access MCI long-distance service as part of the
nationwide "Dial 1" campaign.

services (TCS) software. Responsibilities included new client development,
billing and collection, client and project management, and resource

SCC was the management consulting partner to Sansiveri, Ryan, Sullivan &
Co., a public accounting firm. Client engagements included software
acquisition studies, business process analyses, as well as software
development and management for clients with Wang or IBM midrange computers.

Software developer
MCC was an IBM software partner, selling packages in the insurance, banking
and supply industries, as well as developing custom client applications.
Performed customizations to packages, and developed custom applications for
clients such as the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) and Burger
King.
