EXPERIENCE
5/09-5/10 Temp, Fox Valley Staffing, Menasha, WI
Temporary placement including drafting, data entry, warehouse, customer
service, machine operator, food processing and general labor.
5/06-3/09 Self-employed
Owner/operator of med.-sized dairy farm, New Holstein, WI
6/98-3/06 Project Engineer, Tacan Corp., Carlsbad, CA
Designed all mechanical aspects of two new products: an optical probe used
to monitor the temperature of silicon chips during processing; and a
finished package (sheet metal, plastics, and printing) for fiber-optic
couplers that can be used industry-wide.
Designed numerous mechanisms in support of a DARPA (Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency) contract to automate the manufacture of fiber-
optic couplers. Projects included pneumatic and servo design.
4/94-4/98 Project Engineer, Kohler General Corp., Sheboygan Falls, WI
Mechanical design for machines used in the woodworking industry. Designed
weldments, screws, brackets, gear systems, cams and levers.
Managed $350k rebuild of a door sizing system consisting of two multi-task
machines at right angles and an automatic material transfer system between
them. Maintained computerized bill-of-material data, supervised shop
personnel.
6/88-2/94 Project Engineer, Honeywell, San Diego, CA
Managed contract with the Office of Naval Research. Designed a unique
undersea instrument from conceptual layout to prototype and testing.
Researched materials that would not corrode at sea. Designed electronic
housings with view ports that were watertight and successfully relayed data
from 150m deep. Wrote C programs for the hardware that collected the data.
Designed numerous mechanisms, mounts and machines for use in other programs
dealing with optical systems. Evaluated and modified positioning systems
(ball screw, rail, rotary) and specified servo-control systems (controller,
drive, and motors). Responsible for overall product design: vibration
isolation, silk screening, component packaging, mechanics, and molded
parts.
1/87-3/88 Mechanical Engineer, HGM Medical Lasers, San Diego, CA
Utilized PC-based CAD system to design or modify numerous medical devices
used with an argon-ion laser. Designed lens mounting hardware, optical
shutters, optical delivery systems, and a thermocouple controlled feedback
system for a cardiac catheter.
83-86 Machinist's Assistant, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dept. of
Electrical Eng.,
Built projects for graduate students and professors. Experience with
numerous machine tools.
