Dear Hiring Manager:
I am writing to express my interest in the Design Engineer position. I was
recently employed as a project engineer for a leading foundry equipment and
surface treatment manufacturer.
In my past experience in working with a world leader in the foundry
equipment industry as a project engineer I have been responsible for the
design of numerous innovative design solutions. Designing new machines and
adapting standard machines to meet customer's special requirements. I have
worked with customers to install new equipment in existing plants and
designed various machinery including; structural steel platforms,
accumulating conveyors for automotive sheet metal panels, conveyor belts,
sand storage bins, mold handling equipment for foundries, surface treatment
equipment, and heaters for making fracture sand for the oil industry. I
have had experience in plant additions and worked with field personnel with
installation and construction. I am familiar with OHSA requirements, AISC
practices, standard machining practices, steel selection and heat
treatment. I have a great deal of experience in working under pressure in a
fast-paced atmosphere. I was a leader in making the transition from 2D to
3D CAD and I was responsible for the development of new drawing templates
and standard part files. I am a reliable self-motivated worker who is able
to succeed both as part of a team and individually. I also have great
attention to detail and organization, and am very comfortable multi-
tasking.
I hope that after you have reviewed the attached resume we can discuss how
I could contribute to your organization. I thank you for your time and
consideration, and I very much look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
Mark Cook

PROJECT ENGINEER ? CAD DESIGNER
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Roberts Sinto Corporation - Project Engineer
. Redesigned and updated 2500 Lb. batch sand heaters increasing their
capacity and reducing the process time making them marketable to the
oil industry.
. Accepted the engineering responsibility for the company's first
venture into the tumble blast machine market. Later modeled the
entire machine in 3D CAD using Solid Edge, adapted a new shot
separator system and designed a new hydraulically operated part
loader making the machine less expensive to build and safer to
operate.
. Headed the introduction of 3D CAD by training coworkers and developing
draft templates for Solid Edge 2D.
. Directed the 3D modeling of mold machines and core setters consisting
of thousands of parts. Made the manufacturing drawings, bills of
materials, and component specifications for transition of production
from Japan to production in the U.S. The assembly models were
invaluable in the creation of exploded view assembly drawings for
spare parts/maintenance manuals, trained others in the utilization of
3D software, and reduced the incidence of incorrect spare parts being
sent to customers.
. Responsible for coordinating the engineering efforts of 4 to 5
coworkers to produce layout drawings, details, and component
specifications of a $1.3M frame handling, punching, and stacking
system for Ford. Subsequently oversaw the fabrication and coordinated
the successful installation of the conveyors and stackers in the
manufacturing plant. The installation was completed on schedule
without interfering with plant production. The project greatly
increased the accuracy of suspension mounting holes in the completed
car frames.
. Designed belt conveyors, surge bins, and sand feeders for installation
of mold machines in existing foundries and for renovation of larger
foundries.
. Designed 1200 square foot structural steel platforms, suspended from
overhead, around rotating iron pouring machines and electric holding
furnaces for installation in existing foundries at Ford and General
Motors. Detailed the structural steel pieces and oversaw the
installation
. Created maintenance manuals for new equipment and supported spare
parts department by monitoring the quality and accuracy of ordered
parts.
. Designed mold handling equipment to automatically transport sand molds
from mold machines to pouring lines in foundries.
