BBC&M Engineering, Valley View, OH • 2004 – 2005
Consulting firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, geodesign, environmental services, materials testing,
and construction inspection and observation with a total staff of over 80 team members.
Project Engineer
Prepared proposals, geotechnical engineering analyses, and wrote technical reports. Conducted geotechnical
engineering analyses for a major landslide project at bridge carrying I-90 over Cuyahoga River in Cleveland,
OH, including the evaluation of soil/structure interaction of the stabilization structures (rock anchors, piles,
pile cap, tiebacks and drilled shafts) due to soil movement; estimated the remaining life of the stabilization
structures by using LPILE (calibrated for pre-construction and post-construction observed behavior).

University of Akron, Akron, OH • 1998 – 2004
Assistant Professor
Taught geotechnical courses in both graduate and undergraduate levels, such as “Soil Mechanics”,
“Geotechnical Engineering”, “Design of Earth Structures”, “Pavement Engineering”, and “Highway
Materials.” Managed “Soil Mechanics Laboratory”, supervising both graduate and undergraduate students,
and conducted various geotechnical research projects.
• Published numerous research papers in ASCE Journal, Geotechnical Testing Journal
(ASTM), and Transportation Research Board (TRB) Journal. Research included development of
new methods for estimating surface area of fine aggregates, correlations of soil properties with soil
microstructures, and correlations of engineering properties of soils, asphalt concrete with
particle/aggregate shape. See Addendum for complete list.
Waterways Experiment Station (WES), Vicksburg, MS • 1996 – 1998
National Research Council Research Associate
Conducted applied research in pavement engineering and highway materials (especially asphalt concrete) for
“Pavement and Airfield Division”, Geotechnical Laboratory.
• Established a QA/QC method for determining “natural sand content” in asphalt concrete,
and an innovative image analysis method for quantifying particle shape of aggregates.
Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA • 1994 – 1996
Postdoctoral Fellow
Conducted pioneering geotechnical research in applications of digital image analysis for characterization of
geotechnical and civil engineering materials.
• Created an image analysis method for quantification of fabric of granular materials, and
roughness analysis of geomembrane.
