Oct. 2009 to Present - Oil & Gas Environmental and Safety Compliance Market
Sector Leader / Principal Engineer, Arcadis Company, Chicago, Illinois
Responsible for leading Arcadis's Oil & Gas market sector for environmental
and safety compliance services. A recognized leader and expert for the
company in the areas of environmental and safety compliance, auditing, and
management system development and implementation.
2003 to Sept. 2009 - Regional Practice Leader - Environmental Compliance
and Auditing Services, Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc., Chicago,
Illinois
Responsible for leading Shaw's central region practice program of
environmental compliance and auditing services. Program activities include
the development and leadership of an environmental compliance team, client
development, resource development, system design and implementation, and
delivery of environmental multi-media compliance / management services.
The following is a brief summary of Six (6) selected key Arcadis and Shaw
projects (others can be provided):
Team Leader, Case New Holland North America LLC - Serve as team leader in
developing and implementing a combined environmental and safety management
system in accordance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards for CNH plant
locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Kansas,
Georgia, and Saskatoon Canada. Consulting services provided include system
development and implementation, training, coaching, internal auditing, and
leadership during the registration audit events.
Program Director, Exelon Corporation - Served as project director and lead
auditor in conducting environmental and safety compliance, and
environmental management system (ISO 14001) conformance audits of Exelon's
operations (Nuclear, Power, ComEd, and PECO). Over a three year period the
audit program resulted in 60% reduction in number and severity of audit
findings.
Project Director, Pennsylvania Power and Lighting (PPL) Corporation -
Directed project to evaluate potential environmental risks at 50 PPL power
plants. Developed environmental event-based risk methodology in which
potential environmental events were analyzed according to "consequence" or
risk factors that the company considered important: public perception, cost
of mitigation, and regulatory/legal exposure. Over 600 specific
environmental risk scenarios were identified and evaluated to assist the
company in planning for and reducing environmental risk.
Project Director, Constellation Energy - Served as lead risk assessor in
evaluating potential environmental risks at a Constellation Fossil Fuel
facility. Risk scenarios were identified and evaluated to assist the
company in planning for and reducing environmental risk at the plant.
Project Director, Metso Paper - As Project Director, assisted company in
implementation and certification of an environmental management system (ISO
14001). These services included: Conducting an ISO 14001 awareness
training session to Metso employees; conducting environmental compliance
audits at 15 Metso facilities; and developing Metso's Environmental
Management System Manual.
Project Director, Oneok - Directed project in developing an environmental
compliance management system for Oneok's operations (oil and gas
production, natural gas processing, and transmission). Key aspects
included a computer based environmental task management system; an
environmental regulatory review system; an environmental corrective action
process; and a multi-media environmental compliance auditing program.
2000 to 2003 - Corporate Environmental Manager, Stepan Company, Northfield,
IL
Global environmental responsibility for Stepan Company, which included a
network of 15 chemical production plants and 2 R&D facilities located in
North and South America, Europe and Asia. Stepan Company is a global
manufacturer of specialty and intermediate chemicals used in consumer
products and industrial applications. Specific accomplishments include:
. Initiated and implemented a one-source waste disposal account for all
North American Stepan facilities. This initiative greatly reduced the risk
and liability that is acquired with using multiple disposal facilities,
and saved the company approximately $500,000 annually in disposal costs.
. Implemented policies/procedures that promoted spill prevention, resulting
in a 20% reduction in number of spills, 40% reduction in amount of
material spilled, and no reportable spills to outside agencies.
. Developed and implemented a global EHS compliance audit program for all
Stepan facilities, resulting in a reduction and severity of audit findings
by 65% over a 3 year period.
. Provided project management and engineering support of a $20,000,000
remediation project, which included the design of an enhanced
bioremediation system involving volatile organics, metals, and radioactive
wastes.
. Provided engineering assistance and expertise on EHS projects, including
wastewater design and operation, air pollution control, waste
minimization, pollution prevention, environmental permitting, and spill
prevention.
1997 to 2000 - Environmental Engineer, Stepan Company, Millsdale, IL. Plant
Responsible for the environmental affairs of Stepan's largest chemical
plant, responsibilities included: operation of a 1 million gpd WWTP, solid
and hazardous waste management, permit writing, regulatory interpretation,
project engineering, emergency response, spill prevention, emission
reporting, and the direct supervision of four (4) environmental
technicians. Specific accomplishments include:
. Managed capital projects to upgrade wastewater treatment plant process
equipment, including: revamping two digesters and the installation of a
$1,500,000 aeration tank and systems.
. Minimized solid and hazardous waste by 19% plant-wide through source
reduction, recycling, segregation, improved disposal methods, and
personnel training. Resulted in a 15% reduction in annual disposal costs.
1996 to 1997 - Corporate Environmental Auditor, Waste Management, Oakbrook,
IL.
Conducted environmental audits of sanitary landfills, hauling, and
transfer stations in the USA. Worked with and led audit teams comprised
of two to five staff.
1990 to 1994 - Environmental and Safety Manager, Anomatic Corporation,
Newark, OH.
Managed all environmental and safety issues for the company,
responsibilities included: occupational health and safety, air emission
control, wastewater engineering, hazard communication, hazardous waste

1988 to 1990 - Chemical / Environmental Engineer, Amoco Oil Company, Texas
City, TX.
Held rotational engineering assignments in project, operation, and
environmental engineering. Directed operations in support of a 240,000
BPD crude fractionation unit as operations engineer, resulting in 98%
product quality specifications and yields. Minimized solid and hazardous
waste by 21% plant-wide.
