• Oversee the material development of complex interior automotive parts from product conception to mass production. This

includes material selection based on part geometry and performance expectations, creating material and part specifications

based on lab, part and vehicle testing, running development level trials, as well as identifying and resolving any material,

quality or process related concerns through root cause analysis and problem solving techniques.

• Work with a wide variety of parts that consist of, or are a combination of the following: hard plastics (PP, TPO, ABS and

PC/ABS), PU foams, adhesives, tapes, paints, decorative film, woven and nonwoven textiles, synthetic leather (TPO and TPU)

as well as real metal, wood and leather.

• Knowledge of diverse polymer processes including injection molding, thermoforming, reaction injection molding, foam-

in-place, slush or cast molding, insert molding, flame and/or corona treatment and vibration welding.

• Complete laboratory testing including but not limited to material physical property (tensile, elongation, etc.),

environmental ageing, abrasion and wear resistance, scratch resistance, chemical resistance, VOC measurement and analysis,

paint adhesion and flammability.

• Investigate technologically advanced materials and processes through industry contacts, the attendance of conference and

seminars, and reviewing industry magazines and papers to create novel research projects as well as identifying areas of cost

reduction.

• Use industry trends and focus group data to create a 10year plus strategy plan for all areas of expertise.

• Conduct on-site audits of suppliers for quality and process controls, including a review of the process, operating

procedures, process control plans, quality checks, part tracking, logistics, safety and FMEA.

• Mentor and train junior associates, co-ops and contingent staff on laboratory methods and company culture.

• All work done in a team environment with a diverse range of individuals including mechanical and electrical designers,

styling studio designers, fellow material engineers, sales representatives or engineers from raw material supplier and part

manufacturers, raw material purchasing department and contingent staff.

• Led a team of 5 members to the successful completion of a two-year research project. This included effectively managing

team members, schedules and budget; to ensure timely delivery of project updates and on time completion.

• Presentations delivered to a wide variety of audiences ranging from peers, direct management, company Vice Presidents

and Presidents, and colleagues at conferences.

Nonwoven Materials R&D January 2002- August 2003

• Completed three terms as an engineering co-op working in the research and development of

nonwoven materials.

• Ran nonwoven pilot and mass production line trials, completed material testing and analyzed

data to meet project goals.
