WORK EXPERIENCE and RESPONSIBILITIES
Private Sector
10/08 - 11/10 General Manager - Responsible for all aspects of a
Metal Sales 120,000 sq. ft. cold metal roll-forming operation
Manufacturing servicing the light gauge, commercial, and
architectural metal roof and wall panel building
material industry. Plant is one of 20 manufacturing
facilities company-wide and operates as an independent
profit center with both top-line revenue and bottom
line profit expectations. Had direct P&L
responsibility for ~$25MM revenue budget, delivering
$1.2MM retained profit, and the overall development
and commitment to that budget. Provided day-to-day
leadership for the facility in a demanding environment
with an order by/get by expectation of 3 days.
Responsible for the training, development, and
supervision of a 5 staff positions and a 4-person
outside sales force. Departments supervised included
plant level finance, production, HR, customer service,
transportation, and outside sales.
Primary improvements and successful projects include:
Developing and reinforcing a culture where Safety was
a daily expectation and not negotiable under any
circumstances. Application of Lean concepts to
reorganize the stock trim and buy/sell fulfillment
process to reduce errors, improve direct labor
efficiency and reduce headcount, and reduce wasted
05/05 - 05/08 motion. Developed and repaired relationships with
LINPAC sister facilities in order to become their internal
Materials supplier of choice resulting in a 50% increase in
Handling/ORBIS transfer business. Application and reinforcement of
Corporation inventory control procedures to improve accuracy and
reduce overall inventory time. Inventory event went
from 2-3 days to 1 day with less than a $1000 variance
total over the last 2 years on a $4MM inventory value.
Introduction and training of the outside sales force
on IMPACT Selling concepts in order to increase
top-line sales and profit margin.
Plant Manager - Responsible for the Safety, Quality,
Service, and Productivity of a 100,000 sq. ft.
structural foam plastic molding facility with ~160
full-time and transitional associates. Provide
day-to-day leadership of the facility to ensure a
positive work environment, delivering of financial
objectives, and meeting demanding customer quality and
delivery expectations of automotive OEM and Tier
suppliers. P&L responsibility for all financial
performance measures to a $12MM annual budget,
generating ~$45MM in annual sales. Direct and
initiate cost and waste reduction projects based on
financial, quality, and product performance data.
Facilitate and support continued ISO-9000:2000
certification. Provided key leadership during plant
restructuring that resulted in reducing fixed and
variable costs by $2.5MM annually. Managed and played
key roles in transition activities after sale of the
company, including: integration of HR policies and
procedures, transition from Visual Manufacturing MRP
software and local implementation of SAP, and the
expansion of the facility from 55,000 sq. ft. and 5
production lines to 100,000 sq. ft. and 9 production
lines in 6 months and the resulting workforce
increase.
Primary improvements and successful projects include:
Plant expansion and startup in less than 6 months.
Implementation of 5S throughout production area,
participated in value stream mapping events to
identify project opportunities, re-aligned product mix
and equipment with sister facility resulting in
reduced fixed costs of ~$1,000,000 annually, initiated
cost control measures to reduce flexible spending by
15%, improved OEE by 25% through improved
preventive/predictive maintenance and SMED,
championed/facilitated SMED culture that reduced
average mold change time from 18.5 hrs to 8.5 hrs,
reduced material costs on appropriate products by 20%
through controlled introduction of non-prime material
streams, and improved direct labor efficiency (DLE) by
30% through job combinations, time studies, and
product/workflow improvements.
06/04 - 05/05 Quality Assurance Manager - Responsible for all
LINPAC aspects of service and product quality from customer
Materials order entry to delivery and post delivery activities;
Handling report quality related metrics directly to the company
president; maintain continued compliance and
registration of two ISO-9000:2000 registered
facilities, including product design functions;
administer company wide corrective and preventive
action system; interface with inside and outside sales
to ensure customer expectations are understood and
met; supervise all testing functions for in-process,
periodic recertification, special applications, and
product development, administer corporate continuous
improvement process and serve as mentor to continuous
improvement teams.
Primary improvements and successful projects include:
implementation of visual factory management controls
that reduced external defects by 75%. Implemented
company wide Continuous Improvement process and served
as mentor to 10 standing CIT teams. Successfully lead
efforts to register 2 facilities to the ISO 9000:2000
Quality Management System. Initiated process FMEA in
manufacturing areas. Implemented new/streamlined new
product development process. Implemented SPC
techniques for output to the continuous improvement
process. Applied black belt problem solving
techniques to reduce scrap of a problematic product by
60%.
03/00 - 06/04 Quality Manager - Responsible for continued compliance
General Cable and registration of an ISO-9000:2000 registered
Corp./BICC facility; provide Quality Engineer support for
General continuous improvement efforts; administer plant
corrective and preventive action system; serve as
mentor for Greenbelt teams and Black Belt candidates;
interface with customers to ensure timely and complete
corrective action to complaints; report finished goods
defect information, trend, and process capability data
to management; oversee implementation and improvement

black belt project that reduced gross waste in one
process by 30% resulting in $120,000 annual savings.

Hobbies and Interest
Active in the Anderson County Amateur Radio club that supports the Anderson
County Department of Public Safety during times of disaster or other
special needs in the area of communications. Serve as the Assistant
Directory of Communications for the Kentucky Baptist Convention's disaster
relief efforts. Volunteer for civic and community service projects as
schedules allow. I also enjoy hunting, fishing, motorcycle touring, and
spending time with family and friends.
