SUMMARY
My background includes approximately (15) years of aerospace and defense manufacturing-
maintenance in supporting roles of industrial engineering and allied areas. Responsibilities have
pertained to planning and operations support to include industrial engineering in process analysis
and workflow, methods and time studies, facility layout, material handling and storage, continuous
improvement, production planning and scheduling, and logistics for both commercial and military
product and services.
Roles and responsibilities have involved:
- Planning of facilities, capital equipment and scheduling for process flow and product assembly
utilizing CAD and similar applications and inputs from functional and program organization units
- Development of work routings, standards, sequences for fabrication and assembly centers and
operations utilizing legacy, MRP and similar execution & control systems
- Determination of general material handling, storage, and presentation of in-process and supplier-
furnished material
- Scheduling and control in a project-type environment using MS-Project and other applications
with inputs from finance, facilities, and other functional areas of operations and management
Associations in aerospace-defense include the following organizations, position, and products:
- Kaman Aerospace, industrial engineer (IE), airframe assembly
- Aircraft Products Company (B/E Avionics), IE, commercial aircraft galleys
- General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), IE/Launch Team Leader, armored vehicles
- Pemco Aeroplex, master scheduler, aircraft overhaul
- Honeywell, planner, aircraft component repair services
- Northrop-Grumman (N-G), IE, aircraft assembly
- Global Aeronautica, IE, aircraft assembly
During the last year, some additional training and certifications has been underway. In June, I
became a green belt in six sigma (SSGB) with the American Society of Quality (ASQ); l have
certified in technical writing through a program sponsored by the University of West Florida; and
presently, I am completing the testing requirements as a last step for certification in scheduling
and planning (PMP-SP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI).
I look forward to hearing from you,
H. Kirk Rainer

RELEVANT WORK HISTORY
-- Industrial Engineer, Global Aeronautica, Charleston, SC, 2008
Support for Program Management in capacity planning and other functions using MS-Project and Boeing
directed methodology, and other resources. Development of several applications intended to translate
EBS to WBS for progress performance, travel work, and other purposes. Configuration control / product
design change and translation to work scope, etc. Master scheduling support using MS-Project and other
tools
-- Industrial Engineer, Northrop-Grumman, (Ameriforce Contractor), St. Augustine, FL, 2006 – April, 2007
Planning and scheduling for Integrated Product Team of developmental aircraft program to include
adherence to and support of EVM reporting procedures using multiple legacy systems and Microsoft
applications to include MS-Project and Office. Contributions have been largely in defining and executing
recovery plan based on constraints in engineering design, materials, and quality.
-- Planner, Honeywell (Manpower Contractor), Anniston, AL, 2005 - 2006
Initial responsibilities pertained to supplier quality and delivery in accordance recovery programs and
schedules. Subsequent support was provided with material preparation, requisition, inventory, packaging,
shipping, and manufacturing transfers; a special project involved interplant transfer (subcontracting) of
workload to include coordination of all aspects of end-to-end product repair/overhaul
-- Master Scheduler, Pemco Air, Birmingham, AL, 2004 - 2005
Direct and Team report for establishing integrated scheduling systems within MRO operations; Program,
operations, and financial planning and scheduling utilizing Project Management, Resource Planning, and
other tools and resources; Planning and coordination of programs/projects for Boeing-customer
certification; participation in Lean initiation and follow-on events for compliance/certification.
Accomplishments and objectives in the maintenance-repair (MRO) operation included:
- Reduction of maintenance flow cycle days from (280) to approximately (230)
- Introduction and presentation of Theory-of-Constraints to program scheduling in coordination with similar
methods at federal rework depots
- Participation on Lean kick-off and events with Simpler Consultants
- Facilitation of continuous improvement per Boeing AQS for bronze certification
- Coordination of capacity planning to include weekly evaluation projected workload to maintain industry-
low, hourly rate at approximately $60
-- Industrial Engineer, General Dynamics, Anniston, AL, 2001 – 2004
Provided team support for program start-up and implementation to include integrated planning using
Microsoft Project Management® and GM’s PLP process for program launch; developed material flow plan
for off-site and local warehouses to include transportation routes and delivery schedules for assembly
operations; specified, purchased and installed material storage-handling equipment; and served as
launch team leader for five of seven vehicle programs during the production phase.
Accomplishments and objectives in this defense, armored vehicle program included:
- Reduced capital costs by approximately $100,000 through the acquisition of National Guard equipment
at Fort McClellan for program use as material handling and storage
- Facilitated the launch team and FPVI of four variants (medical, engineering, fire-control, and mortar
vehicles) as first-builds for the operation and organization as a whole
- Supervised the completion of (28) command vehicle C4ISR installations in conjunction with Test &
Acceptance to resolve unit backlog – received merit pay increase
- Coordinated the conversion of discrete material to ROP (free-bin stock) to result in considerable
reduction of material shortages and assembly line delays
