Work Experience

Dec 2009 – Nov 2010 Appraiser Los Angeles County Assessor, Los Angeles, Ca

I was selected as one of a group of twenty new hires for this position from a pool of approximately 2,500 candidates. While

working for the Office of the Assessor of Los Angeles County I received a great deal of training and had very diverse job

responsibilities. I was required to value new construction to properties by visiting the site, identifying the construction,

diagramming any new construction, and arriving at a value for said construction. Additionally, I was responsible for valuing

transfers via a sales comparison approach with no visit to the sites. I also interfaced with the public a great deal, providing

public service by answering any questions that taxpayers had involving the property tax system.

• Developed various excel spreadsheets to expedite work processes.

• Gained a great deal of experience working with the myriad diverse cultures found throughout the population Los

Angeles County.

• Enhanced my spatial relations skills through diagramming many different types of buildings.

• Further refined my multi-tasking capabilities by working on as many as fifty properties concurrently through

multiple work functions.

Feb 2008 – Oct 2008 Sales Associate Sleep Train Inc., San Diego, CA

At Sleep Train I went through a six week sales, customer service, and product training period both in the classroom and on

the sales floor followed by continued on the job training. My responsibilities included helping customers find the right

mattress (based not only on their budgetary needs but also on other issues such as sleep wellness and comfort), filling out

credit applications and authorizing charges on those finance accounts, processing payments (cash, check, credit card, and

debit card), filling sales invoices, initiating transfers, scheduling deliveries, and processing exchanges, returns, and other

customer service related issues.

Aug 2005 – Nov 2007 Store Manager/Certified Cutlery The Edge, UTC, La Jolla, Ca

Specialist

During this time I progressed from sales associate to store manager. My duties included applicant screening, work

scheduling, payroll, employee training, merchandising, and disciplinary actions. Prior to the formal establishment of the

store manager position, I was assigned these duties by my regional manager and performed at a high level while

maintaining excellent sales numbers and customer service. I coordinated with other store managers to balance specific

stock to locations where there was a greater market potential and acted to remove items from locations lacking the

appropriate customer base. I frequently initiated dialogue with the company president and owner to address various

problems occurring on a company-wide level. Many of these conversations led to changes incorporated companywide

including certification test modifications which more accurately reflect true information and payroll and commission

structure changes to reward employees performing at exceptional levels. One such initiative which I elevated to

ownership prompted an entire managerial restructure of the company.

• Awarded the title of Certified Cutlery Specialist after undertaking a fifty-page qualification test requiring

extensive knowledge on manufacturing processes, steels, and all elements of knives and swords, both functional

and technical

• Played critical role in leading store to a 30% sales increase in first year of employment; helped build back lost

customer base in a specialty market through excellent product knowledge and customer service skills

• Promoted to store manager by company District Manager following structural changes which I initiated

Sep 2004- Feb 2005; Sales Associate Finlay Fine Jewelry, Robinson-May, UTC,

Jan 2004- Jun 2004 La Jolla, Ca

In this position I performed customer service and sales of a wide variety of fine jewelry. I interfaced with

customers, fielded questions, resolved problems, and provided customized service. I handled cash, credit,

and check transactions, and ensured security of over $100,000 in jewelry inventory.

• Selected by store manager to train new employees on all closing and security procedures

• Assisted in technical knowledge training (i.e. material composition within different precious metals,

technical specifications on watches, etc.)

• Provided positive product security; developed and fostered close relationship with Robinson-May

loss prevention personnel resulting in no asset losses under my watch during my tenure

• Key player in maintaining strong stores sales figures in a heavily recessed market

July 2004 – Sept 2004; Bank Teller Washington Mutual, Lancaster, California

May 2001 – Sept 2003

I was selected for this position under the Washington Mutual High School Intern Program, a program

designed to place exceptional high school students in teller positions and provide them with valuable work

experience. The specific position I earned received well over one hundred applications and I was ultimately

chosen from fifteen finalists. During this time I provided customer service, performed business transactions,

researched accounts and other information, and handled cash flow. I also fielded incoming customer service

calls and provided follow-up service. I dealt with fraud prevention, account security, and counterfeit bill

detection in a fraud-heavy area.

• Sited by branch manager for rapid completion of in-store teller training as fastest completed to date

• Recognized for unusual maturity and sense of responsibility; personally recruited by branch’s WaMu Finance

Representative to assist with telephone representation to our larger account holders and investors

• Attention to detail directly led to the in-branch arrest of fraud suspects on multiple occasions through quick

crime recognition and notification of authorities without alerting the criminals

• Exceptional service lead to a direct request from the branch manager to recruit candidates for two new
