Division] Greeneville TN 37745 SEP 2007-MAR 2009
Responsible for re-establishing a product development design
engineering organization in a mobile hydraulics market division
historically staffed for sustaining support; an initial launch of a
product design group initiative had been begun by facility four years
prior. Established containment/redesign for projects in-process
taking the foremost product launch project into a successful customer
test program Reviewed and reallocated existing staff and recruited to
establish analysis and sr. level design positions. Upgraded CAD and
analysis software w/ training to improve department's skills;
introduced practice of ANSI standards GD&T/tolerance analysis and
provided internal/external training in same. Introduced risk
management strategies and project estimation/tracking methods.
Expanded division's product market opportunities into military ground
defense markets.
. Manager, Mechanical Engineering [Diversified Technologies] Ridgeland, MS
39157 SEP 2005-AUG 2007
Managed a design engineering staff for rack mount and portable
computer products in commercial and military communications markets;
structural and thermal packaging design for military vehicle mounted
DC-AC power conversion equipment. Defined transition requirements for
DTI's president to support migration of Engineering, Operations and
Quality practices toward use of industry/MIL standards to become a
direct military supplier
. Manager, Mechanical Design [Curtiss Wright Controls Engineered Systems]
Gastonia, NC 28052 FEB 2005-SEP 2005 - Family decision not to relocate
for child in high school
Responsible for design engineering staffs in North Carolina, New
Jersey and on-site project team for Boeing 787 cargo door mechanism.
Established design methods/practices for translation of company's core
technical knowledge in rotary actuators to start-up design offices in
North Carolina and interaction of design staff with off-site
manufacturing facility; recruited and trained additions to NC design
offices; proposal/resource-budget preparation, specification
review/negotiation for commercial and military aero applications both
new and upgrades of existing platforms
. Manager, Reliability Engineering [Vickers-Eaton Aerospace] Jackson, MS
39206 SEP 2003-FEB 2005
Technical quality group, customer support responsibility for
identifying [trend, pareto, paynter] product field issues then
resolving these through design and/or vendor/process modifications,
reducing warranty expenses and rebuilding customer relationships.
Group addressed legacy field problems of commercial/military aircraft
products preventing a move by a commercial customer to displace with a
competitor's line and lowering an accelerated removal rate for
military product. Containment actions and customer interaction prior
to design/process changes were key elements in salvaging business.
Mentor in Eaton Leadership Development Program for post-graduate
rotational assignments of students recruited for a management training
program
. Manager, Quality Engineering [Vickers-Eaton Aerospace] FEB 2001-AUG 2003
Customer interface/fault review/corrective action reporting, failure
analysis in conjunction w/ plant material lab, metrology support,
product design reviews, [FAT] first article testing, [FCA] functional
configuration audit, [PRR] production readiness review, [IPT]
integrated product team support, internal procedures supporting AS9100
audit activities internal and third party; application of 8D analysis
as required, trained staff in trend analysis methods, led group 5S
activities.
Managed European and Asian product repair / return for field
performance issues not detected by product qualification tests;
programs successfully completed to schedule through use of US and
foreign based staff and inventories.
Chaired Corrective Action Review [CAR] Board; implemented CAR
assignment, tracking and analysis software application based on 5Whys
that significantly increased the resolution of legacy product /
process issues by adding a user friendly method for root cause
determination and keeping resources focused by a pending action
reporting system to facility managers.
. Manager, Continuing Engineering [Vickers-Eaton Aerospace] AUG 1999-FEB
2001
Group focused on design and process development in support of
assembly/test departments and internal machine shop; also addressed
field warranty issues with major customer products
Trained with Vickers Fluid Power [VFP] Jackson facility leadership
team in Eaton Business Operation System practices
Technical lead contact for VFP facility on European [Airbus
Industries] products in design and quality engineering
. Advanced Programs Group & Product Design, Design thru Sr. Project
Engineer [Vickers-Eaton Aerospace] 1981-1999
Product lead design - engineering / technician staffs in product
design/development, applied research, and customer support. Programs
ranged from reapplication of existing product to multi-year
development for new vehicle platforms
Formulated design engineering tasks/work statements for a gated

Product Design and Development Background
. Conceptual and detail design of hydraulic pumps/motors/valves/ geared
rotary actuation for aircraft and ground defense applications; scope
encompasses proposal, customer specification negotiation, design to cost,
laboratory development/qualification cycle, and field support. Programs
included M270A1 ILMS missile launcher [IPT group lead], legacy MLRS, F-
22, F-35, C-5A, C-141, C-130, C-17, B1-B, B609, AAAV, MMA, Boeing/Airbus
platforms from 727 - 787 / A319 - A380 and regional jet commercial
