Systems Analyst 2006-2009
Develop new subsystems to the SyteLine ERP system to maximize efficiency
of Customer Service and Manufacturing operations.
. EDI subsystem was not utilizing Gentran mapping, being used only as a
communications tool. Redesigned the EDI subsystem to actually map all
EDI documents and integrate the transactions with the ERP system
through one common Progress 4GL procedure instead of many. This added
a $36,000 yearly savings to the company's Continuous Improvement
Process program's total.
. Handled all Customer Service support, including customers' EDI accums
and automated customer order creation based on incoming EDI
transactions.
. Manufacturing bays were not being delivered the correct raw materials
in a timely fashion. Developed a "material availability and
replenishment" system in Progress 4GL/DB to determine what raw
material is needed at the various manufacturing bays and direct the
material handlers through RF terminals to deliver that material, while
providing immediate on-line visibility of shortages to bay
supervisors, and notifying Materials and Purchasing, through emails
and reports, of material shortages and required inter-plant material
transfers. This added a $37,000 yearly savings to the Continuous
Improvement Process program's total.
. Shipments leaving the plant were not utilizing all available space in
the trailers. Designed and developed a "truck cubing" subsystem in
Progress 4GL/DB to either completely fill trucks that are on a regular
delivery schedule, or determine when there is enough demand to fill
and send a truck. This added a $124,000 yearly savings to the
Continuous Improvement Process program's total.
. Participated in a team project to learn VB .NET and Visual Studio, and
create web pages to replace and enhance some ERP functionality used by
the plant manufacturing supervisors.
Applications Development Manager 2003-2005
Manage all of the application development and support personnel and
activities of the IT department.
. Managed a staff of four Programmer/Analysts, performing hiring and
annual reviews.
. Maintained the I.T. project list and determined priorities based on
business needs.
. Developed change management procedures and development standards.
. Created the ERP system's month-end and year-end procedures, as well as
data retention policies.
. Lead a major upgrade of the ERP system from Symix to SyteLine, moving
from Unix to Windows, both in Progress 4GL/DB, re-incorporating many
of the existing modifications into the new system. Continued to
oversee modifications to the system, and held user training sessions.
Programmer Analyst 1999-2002
Enhance and support the Symix/SyteLine ERP application in Unix and Windows
environments.
. Improved existing system modifications. In one instance, changed
report logic to access the database differently to make the report run
in seconds instead of hours.
. Implemented a label system, designing the labels and programs that
interfaced between the Loftware label software and the Progress 4GL/DB-
based Symix ERP system, and was involved in the hardware setup and
network connections of the label printers.
Diversified Computer Associates (DCA) 1994-1999
Project Lead at client: Provia Software 1998-1999
Manage the support, code changes, testing, and multiple release builds of
the standard product.
. Supervised a team of five programmers dedicated to the standard
product.
. Improved the standard product version of Viaware WMS by integrating
new functionality created for different customer installations and
testing to make sure they were compatible with existing functionality.
. Documented defects found and prioritized, supervised, and tested the
fixes.
. Made sure that each release would build correctly (using makefiles) in
its intended environment. (i.e. combinations of different Unix and
Windows OS versions and Infomix and Oracle databases.)

Sr. Systems Engineer at client: Provia 1995-1997
Software
Perform both customer requested and standard product modifications to
Provia's Viaware WMS, and install the software package at customer sites.
. Designed, coded, and implemented modifications to the Unix-based
Viaware WMS software package in Informix 4GL and Informix Database.
Included CRT, RF, labels and host interfacing.
. Performed onsite installations of the software for several different
customers across the country.
. Served as Technical Lead on two of the installations, responsible for
all technical aspects, including Unix administration, Informix DBA,
code revision management, and server communications.
. Redesigned and multi-threaded the customer order fulfillment
(inventory allocation) subsystem, adding new functionality to make the
WMS faster, more flexible, and industry competitive.
. Designed new catch-weight functionality for a customer that was added
to the standard product.
. Voluntarily rewrote while onsite an SQL statement that was taking 10
minutes to run during a customer training class so that it ran in
seconds, reducing frustration of the trainer and attendees.
. Trained other developers on system functionality.
Systems Analyst at client: X-Rite 1994-1995
Develop a "product build component matrix" to ensure customer orders were
valid before processing.
. Salespeople were entering orders remotely from laptops for
products that had many optional components, and the
configurations they were submitting could be an invalid
combination of components for the product. Designed and
implemented a system that was the interface between the
distributed order entry system and the central
manufacturing system. This system was a logical matrix that
determined the validity of ordered components and would
automatically order mandatory related components and reject
invalid combinations. This project included designing the
Informix Database schema, Informix 4GL online maintenance
screens and batch programs, and Unix shell scripts. This
resulted in orders always being accurate before being
processed.
