Archaeological Intern
• As an archaeological intern, responsible for conducting Phase III Archaeological Investigations at
Ferry Farm, George Washington’s boyhood home. This is not only an historic site; Native
American artifacts make up about one-third of everything found, and provide evidence for
occupation stretching back as far as 20,000 BP.
• Examples of work performed included artifact recovery and storage, detailed note-taking, site
mapping and photography, customer service, and maintenance of the Ferry Farm archaeological
site. As a result of our excavation, researchers and professional archaeologists are able to
conduct more accurate research on Ferry Farm and contemporary sites. This, in turn, makes for a

• Regularly assisted customers with questions pertaining to archaeology, the Ferry Farm site, and
the Fredericksburg region in general, and often was responsible for talking to large groups of
visitors.
