Founder and owner of an independent consulting firm which partners with a
diverse non-profits to create, sustain and advance their organizations to
new levels of capacity and accomplishment of significant change through
fundraising, strategic planning and innovative collaboration. Services
support the engagement process to identify, solicit and close as many
commitments supporting each client's strategic priorities as possible, at
the highest possible levels and are based on a deep appreciation for the
mission of our clients. These include conducting expansive prospect
research on existing and prospective funding sources; identifying high,
medium and lower potential contributors for solicitation; setting
appropriate targets and design plans for implementation; developing and
refining of a compelling and unmatched case for philanthropic support;
developing unique grant proposals; grant application and tracking. Our

This position was responsible for overall management of statistical and
medical research and due diligence in the writing, submitting, and tracking
grant proposals, including conceptualizing and implementing grant
strategies and cultivation efforts with donors to support annual scientific
and continuing medical education symposia, community outreach and education
initiatives and public policy reform efforts. Prepare and submit financial
budgets, arrange and attend meetings and presentations with high level
leadership, physicians, scientists, contractors and vendors to create and
foster relationships and link organization-wide issues with opportunities
for achieving fundraising goals. This was accomplished by working closely,
collegially and productively with the members of the Executive team, Board
of Directors, organizational staff, physicians, constituents and volunteers
and proactively demonstrating a sincere appreciation for the mission of $2M
in annual funding from a wide base of support, including individual,
foundation, corporate and government donors.
The American Heart Association 2005-2009
Under the Director of Corporate Relations for the national headquarters,
responsibilities included research, development and writing competitive
grant proposals as well as letters of inquiry, grant progress reports,
acknowledgement letters, and other correspondence to prospective and
renewing grant-making organizations; the gathering, preparation and
maintenance of all ancillary materials to accompany grant submissions,
including financials and budgets; manage and steward existing relationships
with grant making institutions via phone calls, written communication, in-
person meetings and events to support annual scientific and continuing
medical education symposia and conferences. This was accomplished by
working with the Corporate Relations and Continuing Medical Education,
Scientific Meetings and Educational Conferences teams to design a proactive
development plan focused on expanding funding streams from foundations and
corporations using a strategy aligned with organizational mission and
goals.
