Dear Hiring Committee:

I am writing to apply for a position with your organization. My

combination of experience and education in the field of Communication has

afforded me the opportunity to attain the qualifications needed for a

position with your company.

I am a first year graduate student in the Communication Studies program at

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and I am currently transferring my

coursework to an institution in San Antonio, Texas. I currently hold a 4.0

grade point average and through this course work I have been able to

practice advanced communication theories and apply them to my current

position. I am also a fall 2007 cum laude graduate from Texas A&M

University-Corpus Christi with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. I have

acquired a great deal of hands-on experience during the last few years

through many detailed class projects. In a civic engagement/service

learning class, I was a part of an implementation team that designed a

computer literacy teaching unit for the Gear Up/Star outreach program,

which was formally presented to the Texas Education Agency and Texas A&M

University-Corpus Christi. These types of projects gave me the opportunity

to implement my public speaking, interpersonal, group communication, and

presentation skills, which are vital for a team member in your organization

to possess.

I have gained invaluable experience through my volunteer efforts in the

broadcast medium and with at-risk youth. I worked closely with all local

media to ensure coverage of all volunteer events I promoted. I also

provided clerical support and performed as an on-air guest personality in

order to secure funding for the non-profit radio station. As a community

resource council volunteer for the Texas Youth Commission I assisted with

fund-raising projects such as the Texas Youth Commission Bowl-A-Thon held

in San Antonio, Texas. Furthermore, as an "on-air" participant of the Keys

Weekend Magazine for 1440 Keys AM Radio, I was able to promote film and

related events in the Corpus Christi area. This radio show was also a

vehicle for local artists to promote and discuss their work. Recently as a

Communications Advisory Committee Member for the Health and Human Services

Commission I was able to provide feedback regarding internal and external

communication strategies and how they affect the enterprise as a whole. My

experience and contacts with various media enables me to promote campaigns,

provide public awareness, and implement my public speaking skills.

In my work history I have attained inestimable experience that required me

to communicate courteously and effectively in diverse populations. Most

recently, as the Community Relations Director for the Corpus Christi State

Supported Living Center (Department of Aging and Disability Services) I

perform advance management and support activities for the effective

administration of the Community Relations and Volunteer Services

Departments and by acting as liaison for the Volunteer Services Council of

the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit

organization. I have been able to successfully launch and maintain public

relations campaigns that have increased awareness of services, donations,

and volunteer opportunities to the greater community.

In this position I improved external and internal communication regarding

the Living Center. I have been able to meet and provide tours (press tours)

with various community leaders to educate them about the facility and the

population that is served. I often collaborate with agency headquarters

(government relations unit) to address issues that will impact facility

operations. Internally, I provide regular consultations to the facility

director regarding the improvement of community exposure and relationships;

and by ensuring that all internal materials such as newsletters and "town

hall" meetings effectively provide current and accurate information

regarding the state of the facility.

Upon my arrival I was able to have an open and active rapport with local

media and pitch positive news stories that highlight all of the positive

aspects of the center. To date, I have increased the number of private

sector donors and volunteers that now have an active interest in the

Center. For example, I have recruited local government officials, Texas

State Representatives, and local news anchors to volunteer as board members

and/or promote The Living Center. Additionally, as the liaison for the

Volunteer Services Council, I have been able to plan and design fundraisers

that have increased monetary and in-kind donations and awareness to the

community. For example, the Professional Women's Style Show and Luncheon

has become one of the most popular fundraising events in the Coastal Bend

Area and yields the most participation from the local media. Furthermore,

to increase in-kind donations, in collaboration with The Corpus Christi

Caller Times, I made a call to all local "fashionistas" to donate their

gently used clothing to the Center. The results from this article have been

overwhelming and have successfully increased the community's awareness to

the needs of the Center.

Moreover, I also maintained current constituent contributions that include

monetary and in-kind donations in Sage Fundraising 50 for Non-Profits

Software. From this data I would also generate reports to ensure that all

constituents were recognized for their service and/or contributions to the

Volunteer Services Council.

In my other work experience, as an employment consultant, I implemented job

developing and marketing strategies, researched employment opportunities

for clients, and arranged and conducted community outreach presentations

throughout the Coastal Bend area. I engaged in professional development

activities, created and evaluated employment advisement plans, and I

utilized my project management skills by coordinating and managing The

Goodwill Week Job Fair and The Annual Employer's Symposium. Also, my job

duties as an employment consultant included providing administrative and

organizational support by collecting, organizing, and analyzing information

for use in job placement activities which includes case management,

documentation, report writing, developing and implementing training

curriculum, and facilitating "Job Club" meetings.

As an international sales representative and manager's assistant, I

understand the important role support staff has by providing assistance to

an administrator in order to reach or exceed set goals. As an

international sales and marketing representative I was assigned the duty of

researching competitors' prices for services and products, representing the

company in the community, and improving external communications.

Furthermore, as a manager's assistant, I was responsible for assigning

duties to temporary employees according to the manager's weekly plan of

action to ensure that those assignments were completed in a timely manner.

In addition, I arranged and promoted campus events sponsored by the

bookstore, such as author book signings and the promotion of the "Buyback

and Save" campaign. Therefore, my experience as a member of a support

services team I am aware of the functions of those roles and as a result,

as a member of your team, I will be able to assign tasks, provide support

to administration, and utilize my critical thinking skills to complete

assignments.

I possess excellent written and oral communications skills in both English

and Spanish and I am able to work independently as well as cooperatively

with co-workers. I have also worked diligently to establish a rapport with

clients, supervisors, and the general public. Additionally, I am able to

delegate and follow directives to ensure that the outcome of the project or

assignment is a quality product. I am a self-motivated individual, I learn

quickly and adapt easily to new technologies with minimal to no

supervision, and I am a team player.

My education and experience make me an excellent candidate to be a part of

your organization and I welcome you to contact me to further discuss my

experience or address any further questions you may have. I look forward

to hearing from you soon. I can be reached at 361-***-****. Thank you

very much for your consideration.

Kind Regards,

Yadira Gonzales
