Lloyd's of London Property and Special Lines

Insurer/Reinsurer Underwriter

. Held a USD 40m per risk authority to underwrite various property and

special lines classes focusing on North American commercial property

business both on an open market and delegated authority basis. This

involved risk selection, survey assessment, catastrophe modelling,

pricing and quoting of individual risks and binding authorities.

. Spent 2010 on secondment in New York with a Lloyd's MGA underwriting

catastrophe driven large commercial property accounts. This involved

underwriting of individual risks and extensive marketing efforts.

During this time I developed strong working relationships with

Retailers and Wholesalers including Marsh, Aon, Willis and Amwins both

in their North East offices and also Nationwide.

. Wrote a cross section of occupancies including real estate, food

risks, pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, plastics

manufacturing, warehousing, condominiums, apartment complexes, grain

storage, vacant buildings, restaurants, printing risks, car

manufacturing, mining, and metals.

. Extensively studied risk management and engineering reports when

forming an opinion about a risk. This included assessing the likely

frequency, origin and severity of losses that may occur.

. Used a combination of RMS and more traditional experience based

methods to assess and price various catastrophe perils including

windstorm, storm surge, earthquake, tornado, flood, freeze and hail.

. Planned an overall underwriting strategy based on current and

potential future market conditions. This included a plan for the

market turn following a big loss.

. Liaised extensively with claims staff and lawyers on the coverage,

development and potential subrogation of losses.

. Used catastrophe modelling return period results to effectively manage

exposure and plan an underwriting strategy on a portfolio basis. This

involved balancing individual risk assessment with how the catastrophe

exposure would fit in at a portfolio level.

Aspen Re August 2005 - July 2006

Reinsurer Compliance Assistant

. Developed new exception reports to more effectively disseminate

information to teams across the company. This also involved

interaction with senior management and product heads regarding content

and format of reports.

. Identified underwriting control risks and created procedures and tests

to minimize the risk of potential losses.

. Identified breaches of authority and met with underwriters and other

key staff to discuss possible solutions.

Scottish Institute for July 2004 - July 2005

Enterprise (SIE)

National Enterprise Organisation Student Intern Co-ordinator

. Managed all student interns across 30 higher education institutions in

Scotland.

. Introduced and developed SIE in 6 new partner Higher Education

Institutions. This involved meeting with and selling the idea to

Principals and Vice Chancellors and thereafter liaising with

departments within the institutions to create and grow a new SIE team.

. Developed and delivered "Planformance" a business/personal development

planning workshop.

. Assisted with the organisation of the SIE National Business Plan

competition. The competition received over 400 entries from across

Scotland.
