Cathal has a degree in Interior Design Architecture from the College of Marketing and Design, Dublin,

Ireland and more than 26 years experience in design, architecture and construction, along with specific

experience in business, 3D modeling, photomontage and animation.

Involved with companies working abroad in the US (1 year), UK (2 years) and Malaysia (8 years), Cathal

gained valuable experience in many design disciplines, from concept design through to full implementation,

covering retail, commercial, residential and hospitality. Working on projects as a design architect, Cathal

learnt to develop good communication skills and the importance of creating trust with clients. Having the

clients’ trust has become one of Cathal’s most important business mantras.

Cathal joined dwp Malaysia, (part of dwp Group) in January 2010 as senior designer. In April 2010 he

became the design director, responsible for a design team of 17. Current responsibilities include developing

new clients, working with and encouraging the design team to develop design ideas, making client

presentations, recruiting new design staff, coordinating the project management team and the design team

on all projects on site. Cathal works with the managing director and the finance director on all day to day

company matters. Act as 2IC to the Managing Director on all matters concerning the company, HR, finance,

project management. Cathal works closely on all group and local directives, with the group and executive

directors, (including the CEO) in the other dwp group offices in Bangkok, Singapore, Vietnam and Dubai.

In 1996, Cathal returned to Ireland and established OBD Interior Design Architecture. In the early years OBD

provided design services in architecture, interior design and 3D digital modeling, along with web and print

design. Whilst running the company Cathal re-trained in 3D modeling and in 2002 re-branded and re-

launched the company as Visuale.

Visuale specialised in 3D computer modeling, digital visualisation, photomontage and animation. The

company developed a well-known reputation for providing a high standard of work, within affordable

budgets and within realistic timescales. The company maintained a core client base, ranging from

developers, architects, designers, contractors, real estate agents, venture capitalists, planners, product

designers etc. A lot of the work Visuale carried out was for repeat clients.

Over the years, Cathal has gained huge experience in running and managing a business from developing

new clients and working with existing, organising and managing freelance designers, dealing with various

authorities as well carrying out full project management and financial control. Continuing to learn and

develop, both personally and in business are key aims for Cathal.

Achievements:

Established new clients for dwp Malaysia and expanded the range of design work in workplace and

healthcare.

Established and maintained a company from start-up for the last 13 years. Created and developed a strong

client base. Created and provided a very high standard of work, working within time and cost restraints.

Spent formative years growing up in Kuwait from 1964 – 1976, so always had a desire to travel and work

abroad. Have a real passion for photography and take photographs on a semi-professional basis - sports

and people mainly. Sports - rugby mostly, used to play, but now a spectator, walking and cycling. Reading

and learning. Currently studying for the LEED GA exams in September.
