Career History
Director, New Program Development L&G, Universal Forest Products Inc.
2008 -2010. Successfully directed a start-up in the lawn and garden
industry, for this Michigan-based, $2.7 billion wood products manufacturer.
Responsible for off-shore sourcing of components, Q&A, establishment of
domestic assembly sites to overlay with current company facilities,
program/product design, sales, marketing and product launch to mass
merchants, big box chains, and Independent Garden Centers nationally (USA),
in Canada, and Europe.
President, COO, Matthews Four Seasons, a subsidiary of Central Garden &
Pet.
2003 - 2007. Successfully executed turn around of 50 yr/old manufacturing
division of this $1.7 billion conglomerate in Lawn & Garden business. Full
responsibility for multi-location manufacturing, sales and distribution,
and profit and loss of this primary manufacturing operation. Sales of $9
million grew to approx. $21 million in less than 3 years. Entire
management and production teams were replaced. Led product development and
offshore out-sourcing, and improved EBITDA from (950K) to over 2.5M.
Managed sales efforts to Home Depot, Lowes, OSH, WalMart, Menards, Mid
States Fleet & Farm, Fred Meyer, Tractor Supply, Agway, and international
business.

President, COO, Director, Bertrams Inc / Pentland Plc, London, UK, 1986 -
2002. Co-founded and built this $36 million building product, home decor
and furniture company from the ground up. Built the largest consumer
packaged ceramic tile company in North America, as vendor to Home Depot,
Lowes, Builders Square, HomeBase, Menards, and Fred Meyer. Full P&L
responsibility for two consumer brand divisions, Tilepak and Bertram &
MacLeod. Led product design/development and world-wide sourcing to
establish an international manufacturing and sales/distribution
infrastructure, for both tile and RTA furniture. Managed sales and
marketing, internationally, and established successful Independent Rep
network in USA/Canada, Europe, South America and Pacific Rim to grow each
division to $18 million in annual revenues. Led Management buy-out from
Pentland Plc in 1997.
American Forest Products Corporation, 1976 - 1986. Promoted repeatedly,
over 10 years, with this $550 million wood products manufacturing
subsidiary of Bendix Corp., to National Sales Manager.
National Sales Manager, Consumer Products Division, 1982 - 1986.
Selected to revitalize this $21 million division. Increased sales by
more than $13 million in less than four years. Completely rebuilt the
national network of manufacturer's representatives and sales management
and implemented new performance incentives to encourage productivity.
Recognized as the most profitable division in the company for two
consecutive years.
Early Career as Export Sales Manager, 1979 - 1982. Responsible for
managing all export sales for furniture, components, window stock and
moldings in Europe and the Pacific Rim. Grew export sales by more than
$5.5 million in three years.
Sales Representative, Consumer Products Division, 1976 - 1979. Doubled
revenues over three years building relationships and establishing new
accounts with Lowe's and Menards.

University of Montana (Missoula), 1976.

States Air Force Academy, and the other at the United States Naval Academy.
