2009-2011
Strategic Planning/Message Development: Worked directly with the
Governor and other executive staff to set strategies and develop
major policies. Created messaging and long-range communication
strategies for the Governor, Cabinet Secretaries and all 14 state
agencies. Edited and wrote major policy speeches for the Governor,
including the 2010 State of the State Address.
Media Relations: Served as lead spokesman for the Governor and the
Administration, worked on the record with all state media, the New
York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, TIME, Good Morning
America, Today Show, Early Show, MSNBC, CNN and others. Provided
regular briefings to the Governor and counseled on media strategies.
Managed social media presence.
Issue Management/Coalition Development: Developed specific plans to
move issues from a rollout, through the legislature, to a successful
policy. Examples include the new $100 million Green to Gold
revolving loan program to reduce energy costs for manufacturers,
helping them better compete. Managed communications for coalitions
of major corporations, small businesses, unions, interest groups,
and federal agencies.

Media Relations: Serve as spokesperson. Work with the media and
organizations to recast long standing public feelings about the
agency. Write and edit press releases and speeches, and manage web
content. Develop and run executive and staff level media training
sessions.
Social Media Development: Build campaigns using a variety of social
media sites to promote the agency, increase license sales, and
better communicate with customers. Analyze the benefits and
drawbacks of specific social media sites for the agency's business
interests. Provide social media training to communications staff.
Strategic Counsel: Provided counsel to the Cabinet Secretary and set
agency policy during the Doyle Administration. Advised agency
leadership on contentious internal and external issues, including
staff cuts. Oversaw activities of 10 person staff, built
communications structure and managed all communications.

accounts, including businesses, industry associations, and advocacy

include a complete overhaul of the public image and new name for the
Wisconsin Association for Justice, the largest voluntary statewide
bar association in Wisconsin.
