Research Experience:

Doctoral Research Study Oct

2005 - Sep 2008

Dissertation title: "Triaxial Tests on Densification of Sand by Static

Lateral Compression"

. This study was related to fly ash grouted pile, a new ground

improvement technique with little or no surrounding vibration, and

consideration for the recycling of thermal power plant waste

materials.

. A series of triaxial tests on Toyoura sand together with other sand

and fly ash was performed by two triaxial cells, which were

designated for low and high cell pressure.

. Two Major objectives were:

> To study the densification behavior of loose sands by means of

the laboratory triaxial tests in order to find efficient ways of

grouting in practical uses.

> To investigate the effect of stress relaxation on long-term skin

friction of grouted pile.

Master's Research Study Apr

2002 - Mar 2004

Thesis title: "Experimental Study on Water Retention in Water Repellent

Volcanic Ash Soil"

. This study gave an account for various soil water repellency (SWR)

classes of volcanic ash aggregated soils and describes its

influences over soil physical properties, such as soil water

characteristic curves and unsaturated hydraulic conductivities.

. The degree of water repellency classes with different laboratory

experiments of Water Drop Penetration Time (WDPT) test, Ninety-

Degree Surface Tension (NDST) test, and contact angle measurement

test were determined.

. Two Major objectives were

> To examine, quantitatively, soil water repellency of organic-

rich aggregated volcanic ash soil based on different tests.

> To determine how soil water repellency influences soil physical

properties, such as soil water characteristic curve and

unsaturated hydraulic conductivity.
