EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

3M, PeopleSoft Development and Enhancements April 2009 -

Present

St Paul, MN

Senior Consultant

3M implemented PeopleSoft HRMS 8.8 in 2004 for USA & Canada. Thereafter PeopleSoft HRMS was deployed

globally in 90 countries. Along with the maintenance of existing PeopleSoft HR system, there are major

enhancements/bolt-on development projects that are being carried on at 3M.

Below are the key highlights of the major enhancements/bolt-on developments that I have worked on under this

project:

3M NA Payroll ‘Click and Give’ system for United Way Contributions

United Way is a non-profit organization that works with nearly 1,300 local United Way offices throughout the US in a

coalition of charitable organizations to pool efforts in fundraising and support. 3M has been deeply involved with the

United Way for a number of years and has various programs like employee contributions, silent auctions etc. to

support United Way. Earlier employee contributions were submitted through paper forms and sent to vendor who

processed the pledges and sent a file with the employee contribution details to 3M.

3M decided to create an online electronic pledge submission system (referred to as ‘Click & Give’) on Lotus Notes to

replace the existing paper pledge system. This electronic system would enable the eligible 3M employees to submit

their pledges online thus eliminating the cost of paper pledges.

• Designed and developed the PeopleSoft bolt-on pages and mainframe components to create an interface

between Lotus Notes and PeopleSoft.

• Created new setup panel to enter companies not eligible for pledging. As employee pledge amounts are

deducted from their paycheck (payroll deductions are setup in PeopleSoft), acquired companies were not allowed to

pledge if their company was not being paid through 3M.

• Created new setup panel for locations eligible for pledging. Also created a new panel for payroll clients to be

able to view employee pledge contributions online.

• Created new permissions lists and roles to restrict access to the panels only to authorized users.

• Created views to send eligible employees to Lotus Notes which would enable them to setup the electronic

pledge forms.

• Created an interface using JCL and Cobol to receive the employee contribution files from Lotus Notes and

load into PeopleSoft, incorporated logic in the interface to identify employee contribution changes, discontinuations

etc. Created another interface that would send reports to Lotus Notes for location and department wise contribution

totals.

• Created a Cobol program to setup employee deductions for pledge contributions at the end of the year.

• Truist is the vendor that handles disbursement of donation funds to various charitable organizations. Created

an interface using JCL and Cobol to send the employee contributions file along with type of contribution (payroll

deduction or manual check) to Truist annually. Also created a process to send actual deductions taken to Truist weekly.

• This bolt-on development reduced the cost and effort of processing employee contributions and helped in

automating the process.

Quest Diagnostics interface

Quest Diagnostics is 3M's vendor for administering employee health assessments and screenings starting 2011 as a

part of employee benefits. In order to prepare for this activity, Quest needed a feed of employee demographic data

from 3M.

• Reviewed requirements for the interface from 3M to Quest. Worked closely with the business analyst and

vendor (Quest) in defining demographic data requirements for Quest to enable them to provide employees the

enrollment link for health assessments and screenings. Worked closely with the business users to determine fields to be

interfaced/derived from PeopleSoft and prepared the design.

• Created an application engine program which would select eligible employees based on pre-determined

criteria, get their data from employee tables and then write to file. This application engine has the capability to create a

full baseline file as well as changes file. If a baseline run is selected, all eligible employees will be written to file. If

delta run is selected, employee data changes or new employees are written to the file.

• Led the testing efforts with the business users and vendor. Several rounds of testing were conducted to

confirm that data loaded correctly at Quest and met all their requirements.

Mass organization updates

At 3M all job/position data updates are processed through Manager Self Service (MSS) or directly on job/position

panel by HR. If the numbers of updates are more, e.g. updates to all employees in one department, there is a lot of

manual effort that is needed. To avoid this manual effort, an enhancement was made to the system to provide ability to

the business team to process mass changes to job data and corresponding position rows. This included all child rows

related to job and position (e.g.: compensation, benefit administration etc.).

• Participated in requirement gathering meetings with the business team to identify data in scope for update via

mass update program, edits to be run on data prior to updating in PeopleSoft.

• Created a bolt-on run control page where users could upload a file containing data to be updated in pre-

defined format.

• Built a new application engine that would read the input file, perform validations on the data and

update/insert data using Component Interface if all validations were passed. The application engine program would

create a report of all employees that were updated or were in error along with appropriate error message.

• For this bolt-on, I worked on creating new records, pages, application engine and component interface for

executing edits and updating employee and position data.

• This enhancement greatly reduced the manual efforts of the business users while processing mass data

changes.

3M, PeopleSoft Maintenance May 2006 – April 2009

St Paul, MN

Senior Consultant

3M implemented PeopleSoft HRMS 8.8 in 2004 for USA & Canada and rolled out to all 3M subsidiaries worldwide.

3M subsidiaries use local HR/Payroll systems to maintain all HR/Compensation data and process their monthly/bi-

weekly/weekly payrolls. This globalization projects deals with the decommissioning of existing local HR systems and

bringing them on board to PS HRMS 8.8.

My role in this project is to support the HRMS system implemented for 90 countries. This involves all areas of HR like

Payroll, Payroll Interface, Workforce Admin, HR Admin, Compensation, Vendor Management systems IQN),

Recruiting Management systems (Taleo) etc.

• Analyze, Design, Develop/test and deploy RLD enhancements and bug fixes for all PeopleSoft HR modules

like North American Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, Core HR, HR Admin, MSS, ESS, Recruiting

management system (Taleo), Vendor management system (IQN) etc.

• Support the Payroll Interface module that has been implemented in 90 countries. This involves analyzing

different country payroll interfaces and providing answers to business support questions raised by country,

coordinating with country HR and payroll resources in gathering requirements and implementing

enhancements.

• Designed and developed RLD enhancements in North American payroll areas like time and money which is

3M custom developed module for processing time data (hours worked, shift etc) for non-salaried employees

and vacation hours or special payments for salaried employees from different 3M plant locations.

• Apply tax updates released by Oracle. Participate in meeting with business clients to discuss the changes

delivered by PeopleSoft and discuss testing strategy. Conduct QA testing along with clients and provide

deployment support.

• Designed and developed Benefits interface for Hewitt (401k), Mercer (employee benefits like medical, dental,

Health Spending Account, Consumer Directive Plan etc).

• Designed & developed compensation interfaces with Balser (deferred compensation), Fidelity (General

Employees Stock Purchase Plan, Management Stock Ownership Program).

• Created a new integration in Taleo for Recruiting Management system. The new integration was created to

download existing location configuration in Taleo and update it with Russian translations for location

descriptions.

• Support all scheduled and manual Payroll Interface jobs 24 X 7.

• Work as 24 X 7 support for batch and online jobs and provide quick resolution for any problems encountered

during these runs.

Below are the key highlights of the major enhancements/bolt-on developments that I have worked on under this

project:

North American Payroll – Child Support EFT (Electronic Fund Transfers) payments

Child Support payments are sent to the bank via manual checks for disbursement to State Disbursement Units which

sends over payments to custodial parent. These payments are setup as garnishments in PeopleSoft. Current process

picked up these garnishments from PeopleSoft and created manual checks to be sent to bank. 13 states in the US now

have a regulatory requirement that companies file their child support payments electronically. PeopleSoft delivers a

process to create the child support file and report, but it needed to be customized to match the EFT format of the bank.

• Led the efforts for defining requirements and determining the EFT file format in collaboration with the

Payroll clients and IT resources at JP Morgan.

• Modified the delivered SQR to create EFT file in the format supported by the bank. Made changes to the

report created for ease of use by payroll group. Also made changes to the process to create EFT files by run id (period)

and actual check deposit date as we have different pay frequency payrolls being processed under one run id.

• Created a perl script program that is scheduled using Tivoli Work Scheduler (TWS). This program encrypts

the EFT file using PGP encryption and transfers the encrypted file using FTP to the bank.

• Led the testing efforts with the payroll group and IT resources at bank to make sure file formats were accurate

and encryption/decryption process worked fine.

Employee Self Service content control

Automating the process of controlling Employee Self Service (ESS) content based on country setup and configuration.

The employee self service portal at 3M has been customized to show ESS links based on specific country requirements.

There was hardcoding for countries in the Peoplecode behind the ESS component for hiding/unhiding individual links

and sections. For every new country implementation, we needed to add more code to the ESS component to

hide/unhide links for that country. This gave birth to a new enhancement to remove all hardcoding and instead control

the information shown on ESS through configuration and setup pages.

• Led the analysis efforts to determine the best solution to automate this process.

• Designed and developed setup pages and Peoplecode logic to provide content control.

• Created a set of new records & setup pages. Added the record field definition for individual links,

sections/group box from ESS pages on the setup tables.

• Provided a setup panel where the HR user could select a link and enter the list of countries for which the link

would be hidden.

• Added Peoplecode behind the ESS component to read data from setup table, determine the record fields

associated with the links and hide it for countries which have been entered in setup table. Also removed all the

Peoplecode with countries hardcoded in it.

• Led the testing efforts along with the business analyst and country users to run multiple test cycles for all

countries currently using ESS.

• This enhancement eased the maintenance and implementations of the ESS functionality and was highly

appreciated by the clients.

Non 3M data purge

Automating the process of purging/deleting data of contract workers who are inactive for a certain period of time. The

data for contract workers (referred to as non-3Mers) was stored in HR tables even after the worker was no longer

active. 3M determined that after a contract worker was termed, they would like to purge all unnecessary data from HR

tables for that worker. Data that was not required to be retained for legal or government purposes was identified to be

purged.

• Participated in requirement gathering meetings with clients.

• Created a setup page for the users to select all records from which data needed to be purged. These records

could be selected for each country. A prompt based on PSRECDEFN was provided for selecting record name. Added

edits to make sure the record selected had employee ID field on it.

• Created a second page which would allow user to select specific fields within the record for deletion. Added

edits on the page to make sure the selected field was not a key field or a required field on the corresponding table. This

involved queries on Peopletools tables like PSRECDEFN,PSRECFLDKEYSVW to check for key fields and required

fields.

• Created an application engine program that would read the setup table and purge data from the records for

terminated contract workers. Provided functionality on the run control page of the application engine that the users

could select number of days after which a terminated worker’s data should be purged.

• Led the testing efforts along with the business analyst and business users.

Washington Mutual (WaMu) implemented PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) 8.3. Data Loader

tool was widely used which moves data from the Operational Data Store (ODS) staging area to either the ODS

reporting or the data warehouse tables. The Data loader maps define how to extract data from the ODS, transform it,

and load it to a target table.

Data Loader activity broadly comprises developing technical specifications, developing data loader maps and their unit

testing. This data loader part is an important activity in CAP stone Consumer Loan project and commercial Loan

project. This project involves Extract Transform & Load (ETL) of various products viz. loans, deposits and

investments. The data will be loaded into ODS by WaMu and then Data loader Application Engine will load this data

into other parts of the Warehouse e.g. Reporting.

• Understand the business processes and design and develop them in Data Loader as per business requirements.

• PeopleSoft online page development and coding in Peoplecode per customers requirement, prepare Unit Test
