SUMMARY
Accomplished Telecommunications Test Engineer experienced in lab evaluation
and deployment of both fiber optic transmission systems and IP edge
routers. Familiar with Layer 2/3 IP protocols, IEEE 40/100 GbE Client
interfaces, and ITU G.709 OTN. Experienced with traditional BITS MTIE/TDEV
measurements and Synchronous Ethernet/IEEE-1588 implementation and
deployment issues.
( Expertise in testing SONET/SDH Network Elements against Telcordia and
ITU standards.
( DWDM experience includes SFP/XFP transceiver conformance testing and
OC48/OC192 transmitter
characterization.
( Conducted field trials that characterized network performance as MCI
initially deployed SONET and BLSR
technologies.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ERICSSON/REDBACK NETWORKS/SIARA SYSTEMS, San Jose, California 2000-
2011
Engineer IV
Member of Smart Edge Router Hardware team from 2002 to 2011.
( Conducted measurements to fully benchmark router's system behavior,
backplane and line card
performance.
( Lead test engineer for SQA team from 2000 to 2001 on the Smart Edge 800
Intelligent Transport product line.
( Test prime for SONET/SDH conformance, DS3/DS1, protection switching,
Jitter, and MTIE/TDEV testing.
( Provided guidance to product management, HW, SW, SQA and ASIC teams
throughout product development
and subsequent feature rollout. Focus on hardware stability, line card
functionality and system integration.
( Characterized discrete and SFP/XFP optical interfaces.
( Performed signal integrity measurements to recommend pre-
emphasis/amplitude settings of backplane/line
card SerDes.
( Conducted dc power consumption and inrush measurements.
( Configured and staged fully populated routers for formal EMC and ESD
testing.
( Performed system testing, eDVT, vendor management, and feature testing.
MCI/WORLDCOM Network Engineering Lab, Richardson, Texas 1991-
1999
Engineer III
( Evaluation of Cerent 454 "next generation" SONET multiplexer. Test
coverage included: DWDM support,
SONET compliance, failure scenario analysis, integration testing, and
data/voice interworking.
( Evaluation of Nortel OC48 Releases 14.0x and 15. Main feature content
included 16 lambda DWDM
support, Synch Status Messaging, GR-1230-CORE BLSR Matched Nodes,
security enhancements, and mixed
tributaries. Performed regression testing and verification of RVA
(trouble ticket) corrections.
( Lead Engineer responsible for evaluation of STM-16 SDH network elements
for the MCI/Avantel network.
Performed conformance, stress, operational, and network integration
testing. Produced test plans, test
procedure documents, and failure analysis reports. Conducted vendor
management, provided SDH and user
application training.
( Conducted integration testing, for the TAT 12/13 and TPC5 2 x 5 Gb/s
trans-oceanic cable projects, at
Bell Labs, to ensure compatibility between MCI's SDH/SONET equipment
and AT&T's SDH DXC.
( Characterized MCI network's tributary jitter performance, as MCI
retrofitted their synchronization network to
support SONET, resulting in proactive standardization of engineering
rules.
