SAN infrastructure in Northern America. This operation consisted of more
than 5000 mid-range servers as backup clients ( application servers on
SUN,HP,NT,SGI,AIX, 8 Netbackup Master servers and 30 Media servers
with running more than 149000 backup jobs ( moving more than 10 Peta
Byte of data to secondary storage through a SAN network.) per month.

2800/3800 & four 12000 Brocade SAN switches connecting more than 380 fabric
aware fast tapes drives ( STK 9840, 9840B & 9940's )to more than 174 HBA's.
Specific assignments:
Helped plan, configured and implemented a multi-SAN fabric environment by
migrating data from old direct attached servers to a new SAN environment
along with a disaster recovery plan for AOL data centers. Installed and
configured STK V960 storage arrays attached to Sun 4800 servers at two
sites using
SVApath, VERITAS DMP and JNI HBAs and the appropriate drivers and
implemented SSO ( Netbackup Shared Storage Option). Configured Brocade
Silkworm 2800, 3800 & 12000 switches, using WWWN zoning to created aliases
and zones. Implemented VVR across two sites to maintain a redundant
disaster-recovery structure. Documented a full disaster plan to move a
mirrored site out of production with no down time by developing a full
backup and restore process.
Some of the projects:
Provide Technical support and guidance for a team of 12 system admins.
Develop and implement highly available Netbackup Master Servers at AOL data
centers. Develop tools to improve system operation and performance.
Investigate and recommend new technology for UNIX System backups &
restores. Coordinate all outstanding AOL's backup systems Technical issues
with vendors by performing regular follow-ups until a final resolution.

Backup & Recovery:
Troubleshoot complex VERITAS NetBackup issues/problems. Perform VERITAS
NetBackup capacity planning and management. Assist Jr. Staff with their
daily Netbackup problems. Integrate VERITAS NetBackup with other
application services. Write complex Netbackup scripts using Perl, C or
shell scripts to create different Netbackup reports. Help other team
members to understand different methods for analyzing VERITAS NetBackup
performance, identifying bottlenecks, and controlling and improving backup
jobs performance. Integrate VERITAS NetBackup FlashBackup. Document steps
required to perform disaster recovery for various components attached to
the backup Master servers and Media servers. Responsible to work with the
vendor on complex Netbackup problems, determine the problem, a solution and
then implement that with minimum impact to backup operation. Responsible to
read and understand all Netbackup daemon logs.
Network:
Train Jr. team members on the functionality of network switches, routers
and hubs. Responsible to critically evaluate network technologies;
Responsible to design complex network solutions and work with other admins,
clients, NetOps and System Integration team to implement them; Responsible
to work closely with NetOps to diagnose and repair network problems;
Responsible to estimate network loads based on "what if" scenarios.
SAN:
Responsible for fiber channel switch setup and configuration; design and
implement LUN masking; design and implement fabric zoning; perform switch
configuration upload and download; perform switch firmware maintenance;
prepare SAN device maps; implement persistent binding; Determine and
document best practices of SAN configuration for tape and disk drives.
Evaluate and determine best vendor for SAN switches, HBAs, and routers.
Installation of HBA's; responsible to configure host for use with HBA,
installing drivers, patches, etc.; perform OS commands to verify HBA and
driver installation; configure tape/disk drives presented via SAN; verify
end-to-end mapping of physical drives to device files.
