OBJECTIVE
MY 27 years of training, and experience in safety, production, supervision,
maintenance, scheduling and project management I belive will be a good match for an
employer looking for continued growth. Maintaining a safety culture, profitability and
efficiencies are a continued effort in any operation and I believe I would be a great
asset. To keep people motivated, involved, informed and listened to and basic
communication I have found pays big dividends in the bottom line.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Project / Site Safety Manager
August 2011 - present
Southwest Tank Scottsdale, AZ 85258
Construction - Industrial Facilities and Infrastructure
This is a temporary position that I was asked to assist with by Southwest Tank. The job
is a fuel tank bottom replacement at Pearl Harbor. Southwest tank was formed by a
group of professionals that broke away from my former employer MMI Tank & Ind.
This temporary position starts end of August through October? My wife wanted to be
closer to family and friends so we will be moving to Oahu on 8/16/11. Southwest Tank is
aware of this move and asked my if I was interested in assisting with the project, fully
understanding the need to secure permanent status with an employer at our new
location.
The responsibilities will be site safety and all related issues, daily review of JSA, work
place inspections etc. Equipment and supply inventory / budgeting, time / progress
management. Daily interaction with goverment and OSHA reps.
HS&E Manager
November 2008 - April 2011
MMI Tank & Industrial Services Mesa Arizona 85207
Construction - Industrial Facilities and Infrastructure
Recruited by the President of this fuel and water tank, pressure vessel, millwright, fab
and mine supprt company who was trying to grow the business and needed a safety
program as well as budgeting, inventory control and overall supervisory help.
First order of business was to create an HS&E Manual as well as a I2P2 (Injury and
illness and prevention plan) Then a training matrix was created that was composed of
20 topics, (fall protection, lock, tag try out, electrical, fork lift safety etc.) after this was
completed meetings and training needed to begin to make certain all management and
hourly people bought in and fully understood what was expected.Training was
conducted annually and or more frequently if something within the guidelines changed.
A safety commitee was formed with the responsibility to do safety audits which included
recognizing unsafe acts and conditions through out the organization, shop, office,
yard,or jobsite document findings and corrective measures.
A more extensive safety audit program was put in place and cunducted by myself which
included all of the areas mentioned above. The results of the findings were discussed
and corrected immeadiately if possible with the persons involved, if they could not and
were not IDLH, schedules for corrections were made. Audit findings were shared with all
safety commitee members for training purposes as well as input.
Customer relations was also a large part of my responsibilities.I worked very closely
with OSHA on a voluntary program and MSHA (MIne Safety and Health Administration)
as we also worked on mine sites.
The fruits of everyones dedication came in the form of a EMR (employee modified rate)
number that went from 1.9 to .9 which landed us contracts with some high profile
clients. Most large companies will not consider a contractor if the EMR is over 1.0 We
were also able to drop MMI Tanks TRIR (total recordable rate) number from the
companys 3 year average of 9.4 to 3.3
In addition I had some operational responsibilities due to my production, process and
maintenance backround. I helped keep shop and yard production flowing, quality of
product recognized and addressed being as efficient as possible in all
areas.Organization of an accountable shipping and receiving department was also
established. The remainder of my operational duties were assisting field crew formeman
with preperation for mobilization.Administration of discipline in both safety and general
work ethics was required from time to time.
