Objective
An Air Quality Field Technician
Professional Summary
Experience working with GCs in a volatile organic compound (VOC) testing
laboratory, analyzing VOCs in source and ambient air samples using GC and
GC/MS systems. Experience using cryo-concentrating and cryo-focusing
systems to concentrate VOCs. Experience with high vacuum systems and
pressure transducers. Ability to calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and
repair on instruments. Development and application of automatic cryogen
free VOC analytical systems for measurements in field locations. Experience
with data record, review, and interpretation.
Professional Experience
Research Associate
University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH
09/2006-present
. Collected and analyzed canister air samples for VOCs during the
Atmospheric Investigation, Regional Modeling, Analysis and Prediction
(AIRMAP) program funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) and the Nitrogen, Aerosols, and Halogen at Tall
Tower (NAHTT, 2011) project at Boulder, CO
. Characterized, optimized, and maintained the multi-channel GC and
GC/MS system for high precision measurements of atmospheric
hydrocarbons, halocarbons, alkyl nitrates, OVOCs and reduced sulfur
gases
. Prepared qualitative/quantitative standards from stock materials
. Developed an advanced cryogen-free system for the measurements of
VOCs, which is automated for unattended operation and can be used at a
wide variety of field locations
. Developed and maintained the automatic VOC analytical system at
Thompson Farm, a monitoring site of the AIRMAP program
. Oversee all of the daily operations of the laboratory
. Write and review standard operating procedures
. Process, review and interpret data
. Prepared scientific manuscripts for peer reviewed literatures
Research Assistant
University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH
08/2002-09/2006
. Set up analytical laboratory at UNH for measuring VOCs, including
nonmethane hydrocarbons, halocarbons, oxygenated VOCs, and alkyl
nitrates
. Conducted extensive VOC analysis of ambient air and exhaust samples
from various field campaigns supported by the Climate Change Research
Center, including the New England Air Quality Study (NEAQS) 2002 and
2004, the 2004 International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on
Transport and Transformation (ICARTT) campaign, Biogenic Emission
Estimates and the Application to Future Air Quality Assessments
project (EPA funded) at the FACTS-1 Research Facility at Duke Forest,
NC
. Process and review data
. Prepared scientific manuscripts for peer reviewed literatures
Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI
08/2001-08/2002
. Conducted analysis of ambient air and exhaust samples in the study of
Spatial Variation of Volatile Organic Compounds Associated with
Snowmobile Usages in Yellowstone National Park using a GC/FID/ECD
system
. Supervised undergraduate students in General Chemistry Lab
