OBJECTIVE
As an employee, I plan to apply the many skills mastered through years of experience in the Fire Service and knowledge
acquired by extensive formal and informal education in a variety of fields pertaining to fire science obtained throughout this
refined career of 33 years. My loyalty to this departments’ evokes a sense of pride and desire for its improvement as well as a
genuine concern for the safety and proper training of the men employed within. As Lieutenant Fire Inspector with Golden Gate
Fire Department I have demonstrated my competence by employing the ample knowledge of management and supervisory
skills I have attained through the many years as an Officer with the East Naples Fire Department as well as the technical
knowledge and skills I have acquired through my experience in the field of electricity, education, training, safety emergency
response, fire prevention and management; therefore advancing my qualification and eligibility for promotions or placement in
varied positions within this departments’.
QUALIFICATIONS
As a Lieutenant with the East Naples Fire Department I have trained and worked with several men throughout the years that
have been hired in our Department as Rookies and are now seasoned veterans and Chief Officers. I believe that these men had
excellent skills when the Department saw fit to hire them; however, it has been noted that the refinement and cultivation of their
skills was highly benefited by the training and preparation of a competent line officer. I believe that the time and effort
dispensed by this training has helped to shape their character, professionalism and outlook of their careers as professional fire
fighters. I feel this experience will be a benefit for the position I am attempting to attain, I will be able to work in unison with
respected Inspectors and learn from their personal experience in this field and apply that knowledge as an Inspector.
I am certified as a Fire Inspector I & II, Arson Investigator I & II, Fire Officer I & II, and a Basic Instructor therefore well
versed in the current legalities pertaining to fire safety and prevention and how to teach these. As an Arson Investigator for
Cause and Origin, I had been able to assist Golden Gate Fire Department in finding cause and origin of some fires that have
occurred, using my experienced background in the Electrical field. I believe that this experience can be an asset in finding cause
and origin and give specific type training capabilities to fellow Inspectors. I have also assisted The Fire Prevention Bureau in
educating Spanish-speaking people within our District during Fire Prevention week and on various occasions when I have been
called upon. This cultural diversity may also be an asset in aiding our Public and our men to understand the different minority
groups they encounter on a daily basis.
I not only have a background teaching in middle school and high school, but as you can see in the following segment titled
Education I have also taken many courses to learn and dominate various strategies and logistics in a wide spectrum of fire
fighting. The Fire Department’s promotion of education has allowed me to gain much knowledge and many certifications
during the many years of employment. I believe that this gives merit to our Careers as Firefighters, proving that within our
ranks exists individuals who work arduously to educate themselves - not only for their own personal benefit but so that they
may be used by the Department for the betterment of our community, and our brave men.
I have also been accepted and as a student at the National Fire Academy, Emmetsburg, Maryland. I took a course entitled
"Interpersonal Dynamics in the Fire Service". This course allowed me the opportunity to work with several Firefighters
throughout the United States of America. Several of which were Chiefs and Inspectors in cities as Los Angeles, Washington
D.C., Boston, Dallas and several other major metropolitan areas. The closeness I attained made me appreciate the work they did
in their respective positions and has fueled my quest in trying to be an equal to them as mentors and join them in their ranks.
I also ran a reputable electrical contracting business for seven (7) years with 1 to 2.5 million dollar yearly revenue.
WORK HISTORY
2/2010 – 2/2011
AHCA – Agency for Health Care Administration Florida
I started in the Office of Plans and Construction as a Life Safety Specialist, inspecting facilities for State Licensure. These
facilities included Hospitals, Surgical Centers, Hospice, Birthing Centers and in two months I was transferred internally by the agency to
the federal area offices to include Centers for Medicaid and Medicare and included Nursing homes for federal surveys. The surveys
adhered to State and Federal Guidelines using NFPA standards and Building construction knowledge. Documentation reviews including
Fire Drills and physical observations of Generators, Rated Fire Walls, and Smoke compartments, Rated door assemblies, Gas, Kitchens,
Patient areas, Electrical systems, Fire Alarms systems, Fire Sprinkler systems, Smoke detector sensitivity tests, Exit access, Plant
operations, and Helipads. Failure to comply was written in the form of K-Tags and assigned numerical value depending on facility type
and type of inspection performed. A Plan of Correction was presented by the facility and I accepted or denied their procedure. Finally a
follow up inspection was performed to assure facility had performed the corrections. All reports were reviewed by area supervisor and
federal reports reviewed ultimately by Department of the Navy.
1/2003- 10/2008
Golden Gate Fire & Rescue Department
I started in January as a Fire Inspector within the Golden Gate Fire District. I inspect new construction and existing construction
to assure that buildings and business are in compliance with applicable code standards. I complete notice of violations on existing
business if they are not in compliance and finish with re-inspections to ascertain that they have done the corrections as outlined in the
code. This has given me considerable experience in the field as inspector, my electrical background has assisted me in seeing things that
may otherwise be missed by competent inspectors and my Firefighting background allows me to see what the firefighter may encounter
given a certain situation. My background in the construction trade has afforded me sufficient knowledge to maintain the correct
terminology when dealing with contractors in the field. I also managed an electrical business after work and have gained inside on
blueprints and the working manner in which they apply in the construction trade.
6/1999 – 12/2007
A New World Electric
I started a company with my son as an electrical contractor specializing in new and existing construction. We applied our trade
to residential and commercial type work with lots of trouble shooting for customers that had unknown electrical type problems. The
company grew to over 25 employees throughout the years and consisted of 3 work crews. I worked this venture in a part time status and
handled: Plans review, bidding, hiring, payroll, employee issues, training, customer care, Quality assurance and equipment purchases.
My company was a 1 million to two and a half million dollar a year revenue producer.

1991-2002
Alternate Captain/Lieutenant, East Naples Fire Department
I have served as an Alternate Captain since the formation of the shift Captain Position back in 1988; I was the only Driver
Engineer that worked Alternate Captain when this position first opened in this department. I then worked in the status of
alternate Captain from 1988 to 2002, at times I was moved around to cover injuries or vacation for other Captains and to cover
the entire department when Chief officers were not available. I have gained considerable experience in managing large scale
building fires including wild land fires, which has helped along the way in gaining the respect of my fellow Fire Fighters. This
experience has allowed me to continue perfecting my supervisory and managerial skills in dealing with members of my shifts. I
have also assisted with Promotional testing and sat on Oral review boards for the purpose of hiring new employees with Fire
Departments in Southwest Florida.
1986 - 1991
Driver Engineer, East Naples Fire Department
As Driver Engineer I operated Fire Apparatus to fires and maintained adequate water pressures using water Hydraulics and
quantitative theory in applying correct pressures for different size hoses and water nozzles. I assisted and trained other
firefighters in their attempt to attain positions as Alternate Driver Engineers throughout the years. I was also placed in charge of
station 23 and its entire District along with a Firefighter, working a dual role of Officer in charge and Driver Engineer.
I also served in the Executive Branch of International Association of Firefighters Union Local 2396, 1986-1995 in the offices of
Treasurer, Secretary-Vice President and as President. Whereas I had to negotiate contracts, job descriptions, Standard Operating
Procedures, Rules and Regulations that were in agreement with Labor and management.
1981-1986
Firefighter, East Naples Fire Department
As a newly hired Firefighter in a 5 man shift I gained considerable experiences as Apparatus Operator and as a one man Fire
Fighting crew, until relief was able to come and assist. (Rough beginnings)
1975-1978
Teaching Assistant, Collier County Public Schools, Immokalee
As a Teaching Assistant, I worked in a class room environment teaching middle school students of all three years subjects such
as: English as a second language, Mathematical Skills, Language Arts and American History. Later I was reassigned to the
High School level assisting with American History and setting up my own curriculum and teaching Communism as a required
course through the school during the scholastic year of 1977-1978. I gained considerable knowledge in preparing Curriculums
and goal objectives and analyzing student performance through a variety of testing procedures, re-assessments to assist the
students that were unable to understand and setting up a learning table and work one on one with failing students and assisted
them to pass with academic achievements.
