Beumer Corporation, New Jersey

09/2010-Present

Manufacturer of logistic equipment

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER 09/2010-

Present

Supervise a Mechanical Engineering Group of four. Responsible for the

design of custom logistic equipment. Current projects: Destination design,

system layout. Initiated a process improvement project to document and

organize all company processes in a way that made them usable in a lean

effort. Set up Value Stream Mapping classes and train all staff and

management. Upon the success of this effort I have been assigned the task

of developing lean processes to improve bottom line and work efficiency.

Preparation to the PMP certification.

Moore Tool Company, Bridgeport, Connecticut

04/2006 - 10/2009

$16 million Manufacturer of High-Precision Machine Tools and OEM machine

systems.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER 11/2008-

10/2009

Supervised Mechanical Engineering Group of five: three engineers and two

designers. Responsible for the design of standard and custom capital

equipment and systems. In this position, I also kept my previous Senior

Project Manager responsibilities.

Main Achievements:

. Created a team culture by mentoring staff and other departments to join

in solving design for manufacturing issues. Paid particular attention to

the dynamics within the group to improve cooperation and synergy.

. Improved quality of design with FEA and improved quality of documentation

by establishing a strict process of internal and cross-departmental

reviews. Led design for manufacturing efforts of high tolerance parts and

mechanisms.

. Championed precision engineering principles to improve design process

efficiency and quality. Led continuous improvements on legacy jig

grinders.

. Supervised the design of two next generation high end grinding machine

tools from concept to final design. Became the key contact with the plant

to improve product manufacturability. This work included the design a

high speed mechanical spindle.

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER, SPECIAL MACHINES 04/2006-

10/2008

Directed assigned custom capital equipment projects from inception to

verification and commissioning.

Main Achievements:

. Managed, concurrently, seven special machine design projects with a total

budget of $9 million. Gross margin reached 25% on average. Established

effective relationships with customers and internal departments.

. Mentored the organization into a project management culture by

demonstrating the benefits of workload planning, time line tracking and

assertive feedback of issues to management.

. Ensured completeness of design requirements and quality of execution by

implementing frequent, in depth, design reviews with departments and

customers. My efforts improved workflow and reduced delivery slippage.

Olympic Precision Inc., Bremerton, Washington

02/2003 - 03/2006

Start-up Engineering Firm.

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING AND PROJECT MANAGER

Directed the engineering efforts of a government funded project created to

develop laser drilling technology for diesel injectors.

Main Achievements:

. Developed project schedules and supported project administration with

reports and presentations to management, partners and the US Army. Our

project costs fell 33% below budget.

. Provided machine design technical leadership to staff. Designed and built

a prototype control system for a five axis CNC drilling platform.

. Developed a vision system to register diesel injector datum surfaces in

the machine coordinate system as a reference to the metrology process.

. In the absence of commercially available metrology systems to measure

injector nozzle geometry as a feedback to the injector design process, I

initiated contacts with the US Army to acquire additional government

funding for prototyping a novel scanning micro-probe to be used in the

evaluation of laser drilled diesel injector nozzles. Delivered a

prototype and feasibility data to the US Army and to an industrial

customer. This micro-probe was the subject of a patent application.

Corning Inc., Corning, New York

10/1998 - 08/2002

$3.5 billion Global Telecommunication and Special Material Manufacturer.

MANAGER MACHINE SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY 03/2001- 08/2002

Led machine technology development for the Corporation by providing

technical leadership . Supervised a group of 12 engineers and scientists

(with a budget of $3.7 million) in a department of 65. Increased the group

technical diversity by hiring precision machine design expertise, software

design, process analysis, FEA and DFM methodology. Developed new machine

concepts and prototypes (mechanism, controls and instrumentation) requested

by multiple corporate organizations (Photonics, Environmental Sciences,

Life Sciences, Fiber Manufacturing). Implemented the GE work-out process

through the phases of innovation. Our design teams included our own

engineers and engineers from other internal organizations.

Main Achievements:

. My group improved the measurement time of fiber polarization six-fold, by

solving an existing production machine stiffness and control issues.

. Managed the development of an automated machine to experiment with faster

laser cutting techniques of masks required in the manufacturing of diesel

particulate filters. The vision based approach reduced the cutting time

by an hour.

. Developed a novel packaging scheme that cut in half the assembly of

optical amplifiers. The scheme eliminated uncontrolled stresses on the

fiber, thus increasing the fiber winding process reliability.

MANAGER ADVANCED ASSEMBLY DEVELOPMENT 10/1998-

03/2001

Led the development of manufacturing assembly technology for multiple

corporate organizations (Telecommunication, Life Sciences, Environmental

Science) with a group of nine engineers and scientists (budget of $2.8

million) in a department of 45. I focused my group's efforts on the

transfer of processes and components designs from the laboratory to the

manufacturing floor. Staffed the group with machine design and software

design competencies. As a project manager, I directed assigned projects

when complexity required a multifunctional manager.

Main Achievements:

. Reduced the preparation of DNA arrays from one week to eight hours by

designing an automatic custom robotic cell. This machine used a vision

system as position feedback to the robot and as a quality inspection

instrument. A fluid transfer accuracy of 0.2 micro-liter was achieved on

24/7 production schedule. The effectiveness of this machine allowed the

Life Sciences Division to create a production line for the manufacturing

of DNA arrays used in High Throughput Screening applications. The team

received a cash award for innovation, speed and quality of execution.

. Reduced the inspection time of WDM filters from five minutes to ten

seconds using a in-house designed high precision semi-automatic station.
