Transportation Research & Analysis Computing Center (TRACC)

Funded by US Department of Transportation as the only cluster/supercomputer available to

US DOT delivering complex research, in the areas of Traffic Simulation & Evacuation

Planning, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Structural Mechanics.

Employed as a Contractor-Consultant

Technology Coordinator, 11/2008 to Present

Has full oversight responsibility for TRACC Collaborative videoconferencing systems and

audiovisual infrastructure, supporting primary investigators, researchers, and other ANL

divisions. Providing the technical support for onsite events, distributed training classes,

point-to-point or multi-site videoconferences in support of the staff operating a

supercomputer and research center for the USDOT.

Key Projects/Accomplishments

Currently working with the Facilities Management Services division, designing the

Audio Visual system and it’s related project management for installation of the new

Emergency Operations Center, Emergency Management division with a budget of

$138,000. A key component is the implementation of a distributed VideoWall system for

use in strategic planning and crisis management, a timeline of only two months was

specified to complete the project.

Video Management - lead, a fact finding and recommendation group accessing the

strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of videoconferencing for the entire lab.

Sustainability Project support – investigating efforts to increase videoconferencing for the

ANL to save money spent on travel annually.

Co-writing the Request for Information on Collaborative Environment Technologies

involving videoconferencing for the Energy Hub – Battery Energy Storage Project.

Develop criteria and technical requirements for four national labs, five universities, and

three industrial partners as to the use and implementation of videoconferencing and

collaborative technologies for multi-tiered environments.

Visualization Expert: Manage full life cycle recommendation, sourcing, build-out,

installation and deployment of conferencing and audio-visual systems.

Technical visualization expert to plan and facilitate large multi-national videoconferences

for training and research collaboration. Administer collaborative technologies

(Adobe Connect, Access Grid, H.323 HD Polycom systems): train off-site technical

personnel in system operation.

Participated in “Work for Others” projects, including technical support, design and

programming of vehicles in Python to be included in traffic simulation software for

government organizations such as The Office of Emergency Management Chicago

(OEMC), Chicago Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, DuPage County, Regional
