wide view.
. Implementation of tools and techniques from initial definition of
business case to end control of products and processes.
. Proficient in demonstrating the benefits of implementing process
improvements by conducting kaizen events to find the problem, data
collection and measure, analyzing current issues that pertain to the
problem at hand, coming to an agreed solution to this problem, and
keeping control of the process by continuously monitoring and making
updates as needed.
Business Systems Analysis and Process Improvement Initiative for OEE
(Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
. Business Challenge: Existing computer macros based reliability program
that was responsible for tracking of KPI's, which are load count,
runtime, downtime, cycle time, operational delays, and mechanical
delays and failures. This process had not been updated in quite some
time, and when you would take out a piece of equipment out that was
not operational, and put in a new piece of equipment, the macros would
not function properly. So, there was no accurate way to keep up with
the actuals in this program.
. After performing Root Cause Analysis, I determined what I needed to
create a new program to track all KPI's, have the ability to take
equipment in and out of the program, schedule and track inspections,
and can determine the success/failure rate of equipment.
Business Process Analysis and Process Improvement Initiative for MAC
(Mining Access Control)
. Business Challenge: MAC is a CMMS program that was initially designed
to be implemented and used by Operations as well as Maintenance. In
Operations it was supposed to be used to schedule, plan, track time
off, overtime, vacation, and scheduling daily job assignments, which
is planning a person to a piece of equipment, setting load targets,
and tracking targets. In Maintenance, it was to be used for
Preventative Maintenance, tracking runtime between failures, ordering
parts, and scheduling maintenance repair on equipment.
. I was consulted by a Supervisor to go into the program, and work out
the "bugs" in the system. After performing RCA, and conducting many
kaizen events and producing several different scenarios intp the
system, I determined that MAC could not be used for Operations. Main
reason being, we have 2 4 hour shift that make an 8 hour shift, and
when you finalize the schedule in MAC and schedule a person to a piece
of equipment, you could not input the 2 people that you would normally
use on an 8 hour shift. Also, when you set the target for an 8 hour
shift, when you have 2 people inspecting that equipment and taking
double the scheduled break time, it affects your overall targets.
There are many more reasons why I concluded that MAC was not to be
used by Operations, all of which is documented for verification
purposes. To this day, it is still used for Maintenance.
Business Process Analysis and Process Improvement Initiative for Daily
Production Accounting
. Performed a kaizen process improvement event in which Managers,
Supervisors, Scheduler, Foreman, and Maintenance informed me of what
they would like to include on the detailed report to deliver to
Accounting at the end of the month to get credit for the work we are
doing with different pieces of equipment, and be able to distinguish
in the different areas we are working in. In a coal mine, the stratus
of dirt and coal varies. So, I was told to come up with a way to track
how many hours we were stripping or loading coal, downtimes,
operational delays, runtime, and also track the operator for operator
variability. That means to track and keep the operators on the shovels
that make the most loads, meet their targets, and cause minimal delay
on shift.
. When I first started for Luminant, I was told that my job would not be
the ordinary Admin job. I was told that I had to take on an overflow
of jobs from the Plant Manager, Ops Manager, Maintenance Supervisor,
Scheduler, and Foreman. There were 6 forms that the Foreman filled out
at the end of their shift was essentially repetitive in nature. I
complied all of these forms on one page, called my "Super Sheet",
therefore eliminating 5 forms and over 2 hours of work. Now it only
takes about 15 minutes to complete. I take all of the information off
my "Super Sheet", collect the data, analyze the downtimes, operating
time, and delays, and I input this into the Daily Production
Accounting Spreadsheet. I have formulas saved, so at the end of the
month, the information is already compiled, saving over 8 hours of
work, is error proof, and takes only 5 minutes to turn in to
Accounting at the end of the month.
. Once the current challenges were identified and measured, potential
solutions were identified in working sessions with the SME's. The
improvement opportunities were included and simulated in different
"What If" computer models and the results compared against the
baseline. After introducing to Operating Systems, my ideas were
implemented into the WPMT (Work Process Management Tool) and were
implemented company wide, and are still used to this day.
