SUMMARY
I would like to use the writing, editing and web skills that
I have developed during 20 years as an award-winning reporter
and editor and as a successful public relations consultant to
help Market Strategies International provide accurate and
concise communications.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
2001-Present Assistant metro editor, feature/lifestyle editor, staff
writer, Booth Newspapers
Jackson Citizen Patriot, 2007-Present:
. Earned the respect of other editors and reporters for
being a thorough and fair editor who had a key role in
how local news was presented on a daily basis in the
newspaper and on the web.
. As night editor, was the first person to edit copy
written by a relatively inexperienced staff. My years of
writing experience and communication skills allowed me
to help our staff improve.
. Directly supervised two education reporters, a night
police and courts reporter and 10 freelance writers.
. With strong work ethic, excelled at duties previously
handled by 1 editors. As feature/lifestyle editor,
coordinated five daily feature sections, including the
weekly health tab.
. Took a voluntary buyout in 2009 due to downsizing at the
newspaper and then returned in 2010 as a staff writer.
Now demonstrate great productivity and enterprise by
writing 50 stories per month for the newspaper and the
web, covering K-12 education and colleges and shooting
video for the web.
The Flint Journal, 2001-2007
. Covered the important education beat and earned rave
reviews from editors for ability to clearly inform
readers about the issues that mattered most to them.
. Before that, reported on local government, schools and
development in the Grand Blanc and Fenton areas. Helped
improve news coverage in a growing area that was
targeted by the newspaper for greater attention.
. Identified by editors as having management ability.
Trained to be an editor, resulting in promotion to
editor job in Jackson.
