Working for Liberty Milk Co-op for the last ten years has given me a wide variety of experiences in the
dairy field. Liberty Milk is a Producer-Agent with about 80 patrons. I have worked with farms and dairy
plants of all sizes and on many levels. My duties have included:
Providing Forward Contracting Services to Individual Farms of All Sizes.
I was responsible for purchasing positions on the CME through a licensed broker, and helping farmers to
decide which strategy would gain them the best price protection, either by direct contracting with the
plant, or by purchasing Class III Dairy futures or options on behalf of the farm.
Providing Field Services to Our Patrons
I was responsible for the basic field services of farms ranging in size from 10 cows to 1100 cows. I was to
ensure the compliance of dairy plants and individual farms with U. S. Dept. of Agriculture, and Wisconsin

with the farmer, veterinarian, milk hauler, and others for optimum milk quality, providing and filing the
proper reports with regulatory agencies, and accurate record keeping. The BTUs under my supervision
have never rated below 90% when scored by USDA/Interstate Milk Shippers inspection. I have worked
intensively in the area of lowering Somatic Cell C ount and Standard Plate Count on the farm. Through
farmer education, mastitis detection and treatment, milking practice corrections, and milking
equipment maintenance my farms have been very successful in eliminating high SCC and SPC counts. I
also consult with farmers on expansion plans, milk production, price protection, government regulations
and many other areas.
