A WARDS RECEIVED
Nominated for a 2008 Innovations in American Government Award (Ash Institute for
Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard University). The project nominated was a state standards alignment for the NIH science
curriculum supplements. I aligned all 16 supplements to state standards in science, mathematics,
English language arts, and health, for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This project is
unique among all federal agencies.
Nominated for a 2007 Plain Language Award at the National Institutes of Health for creation of
a poster detailing youth health risks and statistics.
Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship 2005 2006. Second teacher in
Pennsylvania to ever win this award. Was chosen for three separate positions as an Einstein Fellow
to work in a government position, advising various committees or directors on science education
policy issues.
Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholarship 2003. Received a fully funded three-week trip to Japan
to study education and culture. One of only six teachers in Pennsylvania in 2003 chosen for this
award.
Competed for the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Awards international science competition
from 1995 through 2003. Bellefonte Area Middle School students won more honorable mention
awards in the than any other school in the nation in 2000, 2001, and 2003. Coached one of the 12
