Project for National Research Council Canada Jan 2010 – May 2010
• Developed a protocol to measure the frictional forces encountered in a simulated ventriculostomy
• Modified an existing strain-stress measuring machine and developed an experimental protocol. The frictional
forces encountered during the procedure were measured and monitored during the insertion process
• Experimentation was conducted on polyvinyl acetate (PVA) hydrogels, agarose, and veal brain
• Conducted statistical analyses on the variables of interest for the penetration forces: speed of insertion of the
stainless steel rod, the diameter of the rod, and the pressure setting of the simulated ventricle
• Made biweekly presentations to clients
Engineering Intern, Lotte Purified Terephthalic Acid Ltd., Karachi, Pakistan Jun 2009 – Aug 2009
• Assisted in the engineering of effective treatment of raw water in the Utilities plant
• Headed a group of 5 interns assigned to the project; scheduled meetings, delegated tasks and set deadlines
