Objective
Obtaining a career in a fast paced and fun environment.
Experience
1st Ace Computers November 2011 - August
2012
1305 Stevenson Drive Springfield, IL 62703
217-***-**** Supervisor: Nick Miller
The last job I held was for a local computer shop. My job tasks were
helping customers with questions over the phone, helping customers find
their way into the store through social media, selling computers to
customers, recycling old electronics, loading computers with operating
systems and creating databases and images for distributing through the
internal network for each computer. During my time there I was able to help
increase the traffic in the store and help with the process of installing
operating systems by decreasing the time spent on each computer. The time
spent on each computer was cut in half after configuration allowing more
computers to become ready for sell. I was let go at the beginning of August
due to the business shutting down.
Staples August 2011 - October 2011
401 South Mount Juliet Road Mount Juliet, Tennessee 37122 (615)
773-5000 Loren Putmen
After moving down to Tennessee in late August 2011, I applied for a
position with Staples as an Easy Tech Associate. After the interview
process and passing their certification test I was hired on and quickly
adapted to the new environment. The basic work day would include helping
customers locate items in the store, answering questions about products,
checking in customers equipment, and fixing customer's computers. In the
short time I was there, I was able to record the highest score in the store
on customer satisfaction training and was named associate of the week. I
really enjoyed my time there and was sorry that I had to leave. I provided
them with a two-week notice so rehire might be possible one day.
Nelson's Catering September 2008 - August 2011
3005 Great Northern Road Springfield, Illinois 62711 217-***-****
Supervisor: Jeff Lindvall
Working at Nelson's Catering allowed myself to combine a lot of skills that
were acquired from previous experiences and learning new ones all at once.
I started as a part time employee while still working for a customer driven
computer business. I was quickly pulled into the ever-changing environment.
Everyday was a new challenge. Once I became a full time employee I was
trained to do every job around their facility. A basic day on the job might
include working 6 different jobs. Some of the tasks I was put in charge of
were catering, prepping food, grilling meat, loading events for others,
running the ovens and checking in orders for the week. Our events ranged
from 25 people to over 3000 people. Also while employed there I became
their on-hand computer guy. I was able to help out by acquiring new
computers for their business, installing network wire for their local
network and helping out with any related questions with software and
hardware.
buy299laptops.com July 2003 - October 2008
3815 South 2nd Street Springfield, Illinois 62703 (217)
720-5868 Supervisor: James Lewis
Beginning in 2003, I started pursing a hobby that turned into an adventure
and eBay became the marketplace. The job consisted of being self-motivated
and acquiring computers for resale. The process for resale would involve
cleaning each one physically, replacing broken parts, installing operating
systems, software and drivers, making html documents for auctions, packing
and shipping, as well as offering technical support through email and
phone. Each computer would be unique in its own way. So knowing how to fix
any problem became a must. I can now trouble shoot my way through any
problem a computer might throw at me. When it came to acquiring computers,
our team would go to state auctions and bid on pallets of computers against
other buyers. Finding other ways to acquire our merchandise through
computer recyclers and government agencies was always an on going search.
From these experiences, diligent research and establishing new contacts
became the way to do business. It was always asking yourself where does
this person get their products from and how can I pay less for what I need.
Damon's Clubhouse July 2001 - June 2003
3050 Lindbergh Blvd Springfield, Illinois 62704 217-***-****
Supervisor: Lisa Badger
My time at Damon's clubhouse consisted of having a great time everyday I
worked. The people that worked there made it even more enjoyable. I am an
avid sports fanatic so this was perfect for my personality. It allowed me
to talk sports with my guests while providing them with a great dining
experience. As a server I learned how to deliver what the guest needed.
Whether it was providing the right accommodations or just being correct
with each order I learned there was always something extra to do make their
visit a little better. My daily routine would consist of either helping
with opening for the day or closing the restaurant for the night. We used a
Point of sale system to enter each order so accuracy was always a big deal.
Opening duties for the restaurant included prepping salads and soups,
warming of bread, setting up the back line, and making sure the dining area
was clean and in order. Closing duties would be breaking down the back
line, labeling or disposing of leftover food, cleaning the dining area and
checking out other servers before they took off for the night.
MCL Cafeteria July 1998 - June 2001
206 White Oaks Mall Springfield, Illinois 62704 217-***-****
Supervisor: Rita Hunt
Working at MCL Cafeteria was my first dip into the job market. Every day
was a new learning experience. I started working there when I was sixteen
as a busboy. Over the years my title changed but the core of the restaurant
was always there. From the people that came in to eat or my fellow co-
workers, there was always a consistent environment. Other job titles I held
were kitchen porter, dish room duties (wrapping silverware, dish washer and
putting away pots, pans, and dishes) and line server. While employed there
I also was involved with training new employees for the different jobs I
held. The skills I learned while working there I still use today. They
include being dependable, efficient with my time, courtesy and cleanliness.
Education
Lincoln Land Community College August 2000 - December 2001
5250 Shepherd Road Springfield, Illinois 62794
After completing high school I enrolled at a local community college where
I studied computer science. I completed 16 credit hours. Electives such as
anthropology, physical education, English, math and American history were a
few of the courses studied. At the time I was not ready for college but now
I am hoping to further my education by attending ITT in Nashville Tennessee
starting in September studying software development.
Rochester High School August 1996 - May 2000
1 Rocket Drive Rochester, Illinois 62563
During my high school education I studied German, advanced algebra,
geometry, biology, earth science, life skills, business & consumer math,
world history and U.S. government. I was also an office/ teacher aide and a
part of the German club my freshman and sophomore years.
Capital Area Vocational Center August 1998 - May 2000
2201 Toronto Road Springfield, Illinois 62712
While attending high school I choose to spend half of my day learning a
trade. The course studied was computer repair & networking. My time spent
was a great learning experience and drove me to become more interested in
all aspects of using and maintaining computers. The teacher taught out of
the same Microsoft certification books and courses he studied. I learned
how to install and work with MS-DOS. I came proficient installing Windows
NT Workstation and Server over networks, helping out other classrooms with
their computer related problems, and learning how to deign and maintain
networks. Many of the students who enrolled in this class were not able to
keep their grades high enough to continue with their education. After two
years, I completed the course and still consider this time well spent and
could not put a value on it today.
Skills
People skills are tough to learn and the only way to learn is by trial and
error. In my years of working, electronics was one of the most demanding
people skills position held. There were hundred's of emails a day and at
least 20 calls that I personally answered. A lot of my time was spent
creating interest for items and making sure the customer had the right
information to make an educated purchase. The more educated they are the
less likely they will regret making that purchase. While selling computers
on eBay I maintained an above 98% positive feedback from my customers while
becoming a silver level power seller. I take pride in all lines of work I
do and hope that it shows.
My skills with computers include working on laptops, tablets, and even cell
phones. I've repaired screens, boards, and the plastics on various units. I
enjoy fixing something that was once broke. I have also done freelance web
design creating online stores, blogs, and graphics using various program
languages and applications.
Learning happens everyday for me. Once I start that train it doesn't stop
until my goal gets accomplished. I am a person who goes all in at
everything I do. I see no point of cheating myself out of an experience
because I am afraid of an outcome. Even the worst situation has something
good to learn from it.
